Keanu Reeves playing a former star quarterback who's now a rookie FBI agent who has to infiltrate a gang of surfing bank robbers led by a spiritual guru whose life is organized around the pursuit of the Perfect Wave. (There's also a Point Break (2015) remake that I've never seen)

The plan wasnt to do a strike at the mexico plant, they were gonna sabotage ALL the dice so no matter which ones they got they were sabotaged, the strike was a result of an american having to experience mexican working conditions for like a week. Bernie Mac is the inside man, he's on the opening night floor so that he can be lookout and eyes on the floor at all times while Linus is busy, the mormons are running everywhere, Basher's posing as the motorcyclist, etc. Mac's role is to ensure there's ALWAYS someone on lookout, avoiding the "get me some eyeballs on the X" scene. They mention Mac's role during the Suzie Izzard breakdown of the heist at the beginning ("Who is the shill at the expo to rope bank?") The shaft bits arent filler, thats when A) they plant the explosives (bernie mac's team plant some and Yen plants more, then Linus plants some more when he gets into the diamond vault) and B) they try and sell to Benedict that there's no way to steal the diamonds without getting into the room to swap them, because they know he's watching (they even talk to him via webcam in the vents) and they expect him to double cross them with Vincent Cassel (since Cassel shows up in the casino multiple times), so theyre setting up a Kansas City Shuffle on him. The "cantonese inspired" restaurant is where the hunk mormon poisons the 5 diamonds reviewer, he's sent there by the restaurant steward who says all his tables are full (i.e. they were funneling the 5 diamonds guy to that specific restaurant so the hunk mormon could poison him). Linus talks to his dad several times throughout the movie, and mentions that he has "the best cover known to man so you dont even have to think about [how to do heists] anymore?!" foreshadowing that he's the FBI guy. And Willy Bank wont go to the cops because of ALL the crimes Bank is committing at all times. One they mention is that Bank is tapping the FBI databases (where Suzie Izzard says "HIGHLY! Illegal", shes saying it about him doing that) so he doesnt want them looking too closely at his systems. Picking dudes up off the casino floor is fine but them investigating his security system and how it was compromised for the heist would reveal how he's been breaking a BUNCH of laws. Also the reason everyone likes Ocean more thank Bank is because Bank screws EVERYONE he ever works with. He's very much a donald trump expy in that regard, he refuses to pay people he hires (he does this several times in the film), he fires people for no reason(At one point he fires his security guy for not firing Randall the pool guy soon enough), and he outright threatens to kill his business partners to muscle them out (see: Ruben at the beginning) Everyone hates Bank so no one will work with him.

I feel like "heist In The Middle Of A God Damn Situation" is an interesting subgenre for examining "where is the threshold of 'heist movie' vs 'movie with a heist'". What are the most crucial aspects of the cultural construct of "heist" for preserving the core vibe, etc.
