Megadungeon Level VI

One of the four lifts from the above level lets off here, into a massive chamber covered with ash. Ice blocks from the higher up in the complex have been hauled down from the lift, and are strewn about the corners of the room. Atop a pyramidal staircase and flanked by a grouping of pillars at the center of the space sits a massive brazier, roaring with flame and casting light up to the high ceiling.

Beyond a pair of robed statues is a large room showcasing a larger-than-life mosaic of a massive pointing hand set in the floor tile. The hand points to the northeast, though the two passages extending from the east of the chamber maze about in a disorienting manner, making it hard to tell what, if anything, the mosaic is alluding to.

Ice blocks from the northern chamber have been dragged down across the slick frozen floors and into a series of adjacent rooms separated by swollen double doors. Fashioned into makeshift meat lockers, rows of alcoves have been emptied of their sconces and fitted with ice. Blood spatter trails from the southeastern corner of the sublevel, leading to the source of the mystery meat filling these chilled halls.

The nearly-empty treasure vaults surrounding a lone sarcophagus draw far less attention than the bloody hallway leading to a rift between worlds, from which a horrible fleshy being writhes. Three lit braziers in a row of alcoves along the southern wall seem to keep the monstrosity at bay.

I've somehow caught up and managed to stay on track with my Dungeon23 project. This sublevel constitutes my June entry, and so now we've got 6 stackable levels of continuous dungeon and we're halfway to the goal! Thanks for sticking with me through this journey. I look forward to delivering the second half of this subterranean complex and am excited to explore some new themes and ideas as we get into the most dangerous and esoteric levels of the depths.
