There are, for all of us, moments etched in our memory from our formative years that have become with hindsight, signposts of what was to come.
Way back in 1990, I was in my second last year of high school and not yet aware even within myself that I was gay. I would go into the bigger bookshop in town and look at art books, photography books, buy surfing magazines and have a general look around. I distinctly remember looking at the book Bear Pond by Bruce Weber. Full of athletic young men that at that stage I thought I was looking at because they represented what I wanted to look like, the book was a wonder.
Many years later a reader of my now-defunct blog had seen a copy of the book in excellent condition in a bookshop in Germany and sent it to me as a gift. That was an incredibly generous gift from a stranger on the other side of the world as by now the book had become somewhat collectable and expensive.
In recent months I have decided to start buying pieces of art that I like, from emerging artists and other bits and pieces that I can afford. After chatting with friends about some prints they were buying and one I had bought I went online last night and found these three prints. They are authorised prints from the artist, not limited editions or originals but they are currently on their way to me now. Each of them are from the book Bear Pond and particularly the main image on this post, bring back very vivid fond memories!
