One thing I've learnt in the 18 years that I've now been photographing male nudes, is that you can never assume that just because someone looks a certain way that they feel good about themselves or even sees themselves the way the rest of us do.
As we all know my models are beautiful. Very very few of them have ever done any professional modelling with the majority of them just being regular guys who look after themselves. The things I've heard some of them say about themselves are crazy. One of them I remember had always been really skinny growing up. At the time of the shoot the skinny kid was long gone and had grown into a muscular, spectacular man but he still felt skinny so on the way to the shoot he ate McDonalds to feel bulkier.
One of my recent models hates his face and was even critical of his very spectacular butt.
It's a sad state of affairs that we are so conditioned these days to think that only absolute perfection is valid that these guys don't always like what they see.
