Looking after first timers...

Many times over the 18 years that I've been doing photo shoots of male nudes, it has been the model's first time in front of the camera. I take it as a compliment that many of them have come back again and gone on to model for other photographers. Fingers crossed that means they enjoyed the experience.

There are a lot of factors to making a first timer feel comfortable. My shoots are always relaxed, fun and pretty fast. Maybe I should take more time with it, I don't know, but I seem to get some decent results. It's important that a new model isn't left standing around nude for hours on end, especially in locations where it's not strictly speaking legal for them to be nude.

No matter the premise of the shoot, even if it is erotic, don't make a big fuss about the model getting nude or being nude. We all know that's the plan, there's no need to bang on about it.

Most importantly, don't touch the model and don't be creepy. Sadly it seems a lot of photographers don't understand this part but it's the most important part.

I posed for a photographer years and years ago and while I was laying down in a slightly awkward pose, the photographer walked up and instead of saying "Hey, I can see your junk is that ok?" he reached down and grabbed my balls and said "I can see these, is that ok?". No mate, it's not.

If any of you are thinking of trying photography, please be nice to your models.
