The story of Jump
Added 2023-06-15 09:20:39 +0000 UTCDoing these "Story of" posts is keeping me on my toes. In theory I realise that I've been releasing downloads for a few years and doing shoots for not too far from 20 years now. But looking back at this shoot, Jump, I realised it was six years ago now. Amazing.
Lucas is a model that I've worked with several times over the years and he and I had been talking about doing a shoot with him and a couple of other dancers for a while. We had been asking a bunch of dancers in Sydney if they were interested and having absolutely no luck. It was incredibly frustrating and there were a couple of reasons for saying no that just didn't seem to be truthful. For whatever reason though, we started looking further afield.
Lucas got in touch with Brodie in Melbourne and I asked Timothy who lives in Brisbane. I ended up paying for flights for both of them to come to town and the shoot was on. I had some strange ideas that thankfully the guys were right up for. So some hoods were made with long fringing on them which gave the guys a slightly creepy vibe but they moved really well and created some interest.
Then it was time for the guys to get painted in clay. Not going to lie when I say I'm pretty sure the guys had some fun painting each other up for this section. The clay dries really chalky with a matt finish which meant the guys looked like a very homoerotic sculpture when they were all tangled up together.
Once we had those shots we added lots and lots of coloured powder. That stuff is incredibly fine and light. There was powder everywhere and once we were done I spent quite a while sweeping and vacuuming the studio which was at the agency I was working at. When I came in on the Monday morning I found that a very fine layer of the powder had settled over EVERYTHING in the office. Computers, books, desks, the floor... everything. My boss was NOT happy at all.
