Everyone in the world has things they are into that others aren't and in the years since the internet took hold it is easier for people to find others sharing those passions. I am fascinated by learning what people are into and I would dearly love to explore the world of fetishes in my photography.
Can it be done artistically? Absolutely. People like Tom of Finland and Robert Mapplethorpe built their entire legacies around it. A fellow photographer from Sydney, Sam Gatsby specialises in Shibari Rope photography and does it beautifully. I even posed nude and bound for him a few years ago.
The problem is, I don't really have any fetishes but that doesn't stop me exploring other people's. The challenge as I see it is that so often people resort to black and white photos and harsh, shadowed lighting or photographic styles too obviously influenced by the adult film industry stereotypes that we are bombarded with.
I'd like to see if I can bring a new perspective to the genre because of my detachment from all of the acts depicted, which I'm hoping will be pretty wild. Let's see.
