The story behind Nature
Added 2023-08-10 08:30:01 +0000 UTCThis is the story behind the Nature download. This is one of those shoots that has inadvertently become an example of body diversity for me. No, I'm not silly enough to think it's ground breaking but Andrew is a very slim guy but still looks fantastic.
People have often accused me of only shooting muscular guys but I just photograph men that I feel are visually interesting and Andrew has that in spades.
At the time we did this shoot, on top of his day job, he was doing some acting work and I think that really helped him be comfortable showing different moods in this shoot.
We had driven to a spot I've photographed in several times and when we arrived it felt like luck was against us. You aren't supposed to camp there but there was a tent, clearly occupied set up but the occupants didn't surface so with a bit of discretion we managed to do the shoot nearby.
However, just as I was about to send Andrew into the lagoon on the perfect day to get some reflections and moody water shots a BIG family arrived to start setting up for what was clearly going to be a lavish picnic day. It was only 8am but there were lots of them with a lot of equipment. The way they were dressed suggests they were Muslim or equally conservative so we thought it best not to parade a nude model in front of them and we shifted our location further up stream around the corner.
As you can see, Andrew was very at ease in front of the camera and didn't complain when I had him in the sand, in the water, on rocks. Nothing was a concern.
