There are shoots where it feels natural, easy and successful right from the start and there are a lot of the shoots that seem like they are doing well but you don't get too confident. Then there are others that feel like an absolute grind from the moment you start.
This shoot from 2018 was one of those. It was just hard work. Matt, the model was lovely but he was not a morning person so he wasn't very chirpy. Sadly for an outdoor beach shoot you have to go early for both the light and to avoid other people in the background.
Once we got to the beach there was something challenging about the conditions. The lighting was proving to be challenging and if I'm honest I think I was just having an off day.
Thankfully in the end there are some good shots in there but the model does look a bit tired. I'm reluctant to do any retouching but to be fair to him I probably should have. Artists of all kinds are going to have good days and bad days and all of them are learning experiences. These days though, I might have just abandoned this shoot.
Revisiting it for this post though, I wonder if I'm being too harsh and my memories are colouring the actual outcome?
