The story of Black and Gold

I honestly can't remember how I met Ry but we have mutual friends and at some point we found ourselves organising a photo shoot. This is how we came up with Black and Gold.

Ry has a lot of experience as a performer in dance and acrobatics so he's used to costumes, even if they aren't usually so tiny. He wasn't keen to do any full frontal and that is totally fine and he happened to have lots of fantastic masks/beads and a pretty cool gold codpiece situation.

We started with a black mask that had strands of beading coming from it with nothing else. The movement of things like beads is always fun to play with. It can provide modesty as well as movement and drama.

Next up we started on the gold codpiece and mask etc. These sort of looks are a bit more "costume" than I generally like to shoot but they do work well although I'm not sure how much movement that codpiece would have held up to. Ry was testing the limits of it's weight bearing capabilities... ;)

The last section of the shoot was when we experimented with gold leaf. Again this was more Ry's idea than mine but it was something I was very happy to try. It's much harder to apply than I expected which is why it's a bit random but overall the two of us were very happy with these results.

Sadly we never got to do any more collaborations because he and his partner at the time moved overseas.
