Like all creatives with ambitions, the biggest hurdle is how to get into the world we want. I have a bunch of aspirations as a photographer. Celebrity portraits, art video, more underwater work, gallery representation. The list goes on. One of them which I know is entirely possible, is putting an art spin on the bodybuilder physique photography world.
Photographing the idealised, or even hyperealised physiques of any era has been a common thread ever since Bob Mizer in America. People like Herb Ritts, Bruce Weber, David Vance and countless others have put their spin on the perfect physique and I'd love to have a go.
Some will argue that the guys I photograph now already set an unrealistic standard for the average guy to live up to and to an extent they are right but art for me isn't about gritty realism.
It's time to do some research and figure out when some bodybuilding competitions are on here in Sydney and go do some networking.
