What's your brand?

With the rise of social media and influencer culture we have developed a generation of people that are very focused on their brand. I have recently had a model cull a bunch of photos from a download (yet to be released) because they didn't align with his brand.

Now, if he'd said they just showed a little more than he was comfortable with or he didn't like his facial expression in them then I would have understood but to throw in "my brand" when he has less than 10K followers on Instagram feels a little bit over the top to me. Obviously I accommodated his requests because he is a nice guy and he was really nice about it.

To an extent I understand what he is saying. He works in an industry where his image is his business card to an extent and we all know that perception is key when selling a product. Was it frustrating? Yes. I'm trying to just roll with the punches on stuff like this. There are a bunch of downloads that have been removed from my website and this site too because of models change in circumstance even though I would much rather they stayed available.

What's your brand? What's your brand? What's your brand? What's your brand? What's your brand? What's your brand?

Comments

(oops, hit the wrong button) continued... I recently did a shoot with my ideas and the photographers combined. They wanted me to rub mud all over me which was kind of fun and I enjoyed the process, but the images that came out at the end were more sexually suggestive than it felt at the time, so I vetoed them from publication

While it may be frustrating, everyone has the right to selecting or controlling the image they portray online. I'm happy to try out some different things but if I don't think the final result falls within my comfort levels I will say so.

They are very lucky to have such an understanding artist that is willing to change his work so that they can be happy with theirs. I do wander though, you are providing free marketing for them and another platform for them to be connected with.
