This weekend was a long weekend in Australia and as such there are a bunch of dance parties on and it's perfectly normal for people to make the most of the extra day and travel interstate. Axle was one of those lovely gents coming to Sydney to make the most of it. We had been speaking for several months about collaborating on an underwater shoot.
I haven't used my underwater setup for over 18 months now and I was really keen to get back to it. The problem is that we've had some storms and some wild seas in the past two weeks. Given my lack of experience with shooting underwater I am not as adept at making the most of bad situations and underwater photography is a little underwhelming with poor water quality.
With that in mind, we postponed which neither of us were thrilled about but I just couldn't see it working. I ended up going to my regular nude beach which is sheltered from rough seas and wouldn't you know it, the water was CRYSTAL clear. While I was lying there I thought I'd message Axle and laugh at our misfortune and float the idea of shooting on Monday, the public holiday. That's when I discovered that poor Axle had been on another shoot and had an accident and broken his arm to the extent that he had to have surgery before he could leave town.
This is why I am very careful not to let a model take any unnecessary risks on a shoot. Naked, vulnerable and injured is never a good thing.
