I owe it all to Dad.

This week has been a bumpy week for me. Tomorrow morning my Dad is having some major surgery and we are all a little anxious. Statistically we know he will be fine and it will improve his health enormously but it's a surgery not to take lightly.

This post is in honour of him. My father is the person that started my interest in photography, back when I was a teenager and he gifted me a second hand 35mm film camera. Being the logical man he is, he bought me a camera that was identical to the one he had at the time so that I could use his lenses.

Back when we were little kids my dad would take these really nice candid photos of my sister and I. He and my godfather set up a makeshift dark room in our old laundry which I'm sure my mother was particularly thrilled about but some of those photos are great. These days Dad takes some landscape shots around the coastline of the town where I grew up and as a former Rugby Union player, he goes along to the matches of his old team and takes photos of the games for the team.

Where I approach photography from an artistic point of view, Dad is an engineer and is very much technical in his focus. His focus and lighting are immaculate, whereas his compositions could do with a little tweaking but he loves to tinker and I'm looking forward to the next time we can go out photographing the coastline together again.
