The story of Brad...

In 2009 I had a different online presence to the photography based footprint I have now. I had started a blog in 2005 when they were (sorta) cool. My first photo shoot had been five years earlier and up to that point, all out doors.

On 1st November 2009 that changed when I hired my first photo studio, I think for a whole day. I had four models lined up over the day which is wild, that would be a half day booking for me now that I'm more comfortable and usually have more of an idea planned.

One of the models I photographed that day was Brad. He's a gorgeous Canadian with an incredible body on him. He'd done a shoot back in Canada a couple of years earlier and never even saw the shots so he'd messaged me through my blog and volunteered. On the day I had a couple of bits and pieces with me to potentially use as props. One of those was a big long piece of black fabric that out of nowhere I had the idea to wrap it around his head. Thank goodness he trusted me and said yes because that image was one of the ones that you can feel is a bit special while it's happening. It got a fantastic response from everyone I showed and 16 months later it was the hero image from my first gallery exhibition, Shrouded.

I've said it so many times but I'm always very grateful to the models who put their trust in me, especially back in the early days when I was very much a rookie with almost no portfolio to show what I was capable of.

Brad and I were going to do a ten year anniversary shoot but we sadly never managed to coordinate it.
