WWTavern Winter Painting Contest - 1 part is over

Greetings dearest friends!

This months painting contest is done, and there have been some incredible submissions. Our judges @masclans_miniatures and @craftworldstudio had a great but tricky time to select 12 (6 adepts and 6 amateurs) of their favorite paint jobs. 6 of which (3+3) will be winning some great prizes from us and our sponsors at Ameralabs and RedgrassGames.

Without further ado, here are the final works that are passing on towards the community vote, which starts tomorrow!

We also have one work that did not make it to the final, but which will receive a special prize. We will announce it with the winners!

ADEPTS

1. Zsolt Podmaniczky

Marc Masclans: Good and clean painting. Atmoshpere definition and colour choice is good and works very good. NMM is well executed and in general is a very technical miniature. The quality of the photo I think doesnt help to see the real level of the figure

Aleksandra Cvetanovski and Marko Miladinović: Very nice and subtle work. Especially of a silver details and skin. Would love to see more work on fabrics and scenic base. Also we would suggest adding more of these violet tones of the skin in other colours and meterials, in different variations.

2. Neb Ibonek

Marc Masclans: Good paint Job. The tones and atmosphere is very beautiful and even the picture is not the best I can easly see good transitions and tone compostition specially on the dress. One of my favourites

Aleksandra Cvetanovski and Marko Miladinović: Very nice tonal coices and gradients. Soft and interesting ambience. Would be lovely seeing these nice warm orange tones in the upper areas of the mini, in highlights of the hair perhaps or of the light that washes over the character.

3. Jessica Fox

Marc Masclans: Nice effect with the rock and the magic OSL. The colour choice helps very much to contrast green-red. Needs much work on the wings and some more definition. Highest level is on the lowest part of the figure and in terms of composition this doesnt helps, but is a good painting.

Aleksandra Cvetanovski and Marko Miladinović: Very nice interpretation ambience and color wise. Love the accents and details of the piece. It brings the character, style and narrative out while the wings frame the scene.

4. William Wu

Marc Masclans: The face on her looks really good defined specially the eyes. Nice composition and the colour choice makes it work correct all togheter. The efect on the beast is quite convincing and helps to define the character

Aleksandra Cvetanovski and Marko Miladinović: It is nice seeing more tonal variations in hair and other materials. As well as on beast skin and ambience. Would suggest adding more attention to smaller details. Also more attention to shapes of the lights that spread over different areas. It would add more to the definition and volumes of the piece.

5. Federico Galdenzi

Marc Masclans: Nice use of colour and work with complementary cold/warm tones to give a convincing effect on the NMM. It needs a bit more work on the face.

Aleksandra Cvetanovski and Marko Miladinović: Very interesting ambience colours and nice works on light placement and metal contrast. Would love to see more of the final light details and definition to tighten it all together.

6. James Vernon

Aleksandra Cvetanovski and Marko Miladinović: Interesting interpretation and color choices. Nice work on contrast and light placements. It is lovely seeing more variations of bluish/turquoise with these violet's. Would love to see more detailing of the focal point and bones.

AMATEURS

1. Timur Im

Marc Masclans: good interpretation of the deadths armour, working on an illustrated style NMM. The colours are okay and the brushstrokes give a nice touch. Skintones on her need a bit more tone variation but are quite clean and homogenic.

Aleksandra Cvetanovski and Marko Miladinović: Good play and tonal combination of beige and blue, wish to see more of these tones in the character as well. Also more freedom of interpretation, like on the surrounding pieces would bring more life to main character of the piece.

2. Nick Hendricks

Marc Masclans: Clean work and well defined. The volumes on the skin are correct and natural. The small details looks okay too. The figure needs more contrast and highlights.

Aleksandra Cvetanovski and Marko Miladinović: Nice colour choices and representation of the character. Would love to see more contrast and volumes defined. And for a better representation painting plinth in mate black, not to take attention from the figure.

3. Christian Savarda

Marc Masclans: Very complete paintjob. The textures, the definition and the Osl make it a good painting. The skin tone is a bit flat and would help the light effect to have darker areas to contrast better.

Aleksandra Cvetanovski and Marko Miladinović: Nice work on skin, volumes, textures. Great connection between the magical base and more natural looking character. Would be great to avoid too many outlining, with good definition of the lights and shade's, outsines are not so much needed. Love the interpretation.

4. Alexander Waess

Marc Masclans: Elegant and clean paintjob. The best part is the face with very good expression on the eyes. Would help to emphasize the effect to highlight the face and the hair.

Aleksandra Cvetanovski and Marko Miladinović: Interesting texture and brushwork. Cool representation of the character. Would love to see more work on hair and some jelwery details.

5. Matt Lee

Marc Masclans: Very good interpretation and atmosphere. The colours are well combined and give a cold sensation. The snow helps to define much better the effect and the character. One of my favourites.

Aleksandra Cvetanovski and Marko Miladinović: Nice cold ambience and color contrast at the focal point. Would love to see more of this ambience represented on the character hair.

6. Curtis Elfno

Marc Masclans: Good Osl effect and risky exercice giving to the character a magic sensation in a effective way. The contrast with the NMM helps the green tone to pop.

Aleksandra Cvetanovski and Marko Miladinović: Great work. Would be nice to add more details and work at a focal point, for the character representation.

Stay safe everyone!

Sincerely yours
White Werewolf Team

Comments

Yes im going to do this toay or tomorrow

Are we going to get an update for the winners?

Fantastic works, but I agree with the judges on a few of these, those black backgrounds aren't helping anyone, especially when the minis are poorly lit. How a mini is painted in the shadows is just as important as the highlights.
