one day i will start the book on time so i actually finish it before the end of the month lol Morrison is a gift to the world and to everyone lucky enough to read her work. I don’t think i’ve read anyone else who writes like her. this felt more like a more challenging read than Beloved did, which I kinda loved. it made me turn my brain on and fully focus on my reading. I also always love books that have a place as a character! 1920s Harlem as a major character was delightful and of course Morrison did an amazing job with it. She does such an amazing job of creating compelling and complex characters. I think this may be the year I work through her whole catalog bc all i want is more Morrison

Jazz was gorgeous as is everything Morrison wrote. I love the comment by Iris about how once you release the need to understand, to logic everything together, the book flows so much better. Morrison wants to keep us in a kind of hazy confusion until the exact right moment for her to put the pieces together just so. I think this is one that needs a reread. Morrison's speciality, based on what I've read of her work so far, are those intense and burning women characters she writes who go mad with longing or pain. The way the other characters observe and are changed by these women's inevitable demises. It's such good stuff.
