The Iraq War Explained

I wanted it out to my patrons last Thursday, but I've had issues publishing it as YouTube kept age-restricting it. I finally censored it enough to get the age-restriction removed, but if you want to watch the less censored version I've put it in the description of the video.
I lived through the Iraq War, as most of us did. I had family and friends who fought in the Iraq War. I am obviously quite biased about it. Please keep that in mind as you watch. That said, I think I did fairly well at trying to stay as neutral as possible, although my dad did say I was a bit snarky a couple times. :) He insists we will eventually find out that there was definitive evidence of weapons of mass destruction.

I'm optimistic that we've already mostly learned our lesson from it. That said, the endless War on Terrorism does continue.

A waste of resources, money and lives (both American and Iraqi) I would like to think that the war taught the US to embrace a more “should we” vs “can we” attitude on foreign policy, but only time will tell. And if history has taught us anything I wouldn’t bet on it..

Yes, we need to continue to learn about our mistakes during this war. It's insane that me, a stupid 21-year old kid, knew that the war was a mistake back then, but the entire Bush administration didn't. Just shows how we're all human.

2024-03-27 11:10:34 +0000 UTCThank you Mr. Beat for another great video! Like you I know many veterans of this war, some of which I went to Afghanistan with. Unfortunately a few of them were in Iraq during "the surge" and their stories are tragic. A drill sergeant of mine had someone from his squad taken off the streets, tortured, then executed. It was all broadcasted on Al Jazeera. The next day they did their patrol and found his body chopped into pieces and left on the side of a road for them to put into trash bags and carry back to the FOB. A buddy of mine, "P" for short, killed people both in Iraq and Afghanistan. He believed that he didn't deserve anything, like having a family for example. And when asked about having one he would say that he needed to adopt a kid from every country he killed one in first. I hate to quantify relationships I have with people, but if I were to bring back one person that died it'd be "P." This was all avoidable, but it's in the past. Now it's important to remember the lessons from Iraq, the middle east, and all wars to work towards avoiding the next one. So thank you again for making a video about the Iraq War. You had a hard time working around YT age restrictions and I'm grateful you went the extra mile. (Fun fact: On March 19, 2003 I was 5 years old.)
