It feels so good to finally have a movie that understands D&D. Sure, it name-drops a few locations, features some iconic creatures, and carries over many of the mechanics, but none of that is the point of D&D. It's a roleplaying game. The most important aspect is story, and this feels exactly like the kind of high fantasy story a bunch of really creative nerds would come up with together in a basement on a Friday night. For a D&D movie, that's the highest compliment I could ever give. Oh, and it also has heart, humor, freaking dragons, some absolutely fantastic practical and digital effects, and Bradley Cooper as a goddamn halfling. What more could a girl ask for? XD
