Finally getting around to commenting on this. This was a beautiful video. My teacher read the book to us when I was in fifth grade, and this movie came out two years later. It was pretty important to my childhood, to say the least. It reeled me in with childlike wonder and imagination, then introduced me to some pretty hard facts about reality. So glad you liked it.

This movie is such a beautiful but hard watch. In HS there was only me and one kid in my class who was neurodivergent like me. We had the same classes since we shared the same student aid who’s help us with our class work. We became friends and it just felt nice knowing someone who was “different” like me. At the end of the year he drowned during a school bash. The loss hit me hard and I just remember going through the motions like Jess. Just completely numb to everything around me. They really portrayed grief in this movie in such a realistic way. From what I know the author was inspired to write this book for their son because when he was 8 he had a friend that died after the poor girl was struck by lightning. It was so sad. Thank you for the great reaction! Had me bawling my eyes out with this one
