“You’d think the humans would be putting up more of a fight.” A brass-skinned woman in an elegant dress grumbled.

“My my, Princess of Brass, getting a little bored with your conquest~?” A silver-skinned woman replied with a sly grin, “They are just human. You can’t expect much of a fight from these poor primitives.”

“But they are boring!” A short golden girl snapped, agreeing with the brass. “It’s like they haven’t even noticed us. Where’s the army of magical girls desperately trying and failing to stop us?”

The trio of metallic princesses sat in their shared palace, chatting casually about their plots for world conquest. Or to start with, city conquest. It had been only a few days since Princess Mikai had arrived in this world, and since Princesses Hikari and Izanami had been created - not that any of them remembered that; as far as they were concerned, all three had always been Princesses of Metal, and had simply had to take over some bodies to properly fit into their new world as they began their mission to claim it from it’s human former owners. It was progressing smoothly, as they took over more and more of the city; there wasn’t all that much resistance all considered, just some cops around their borders watching for further attacks. Hikari figured they were probably mustering forces or something.

“Oh, but that draconic woman was certainly fun…” Hikari said with a smile. Another reason for the lack of response, she figured, could be that what resistance they had encountered had been villains.

Mikai, Princess of Brass, nodded. “She was. But that’s not the same.” she grumbled. “She’s pretty useful now though, after we showed her how much better it is to be like this…”

“Hey, Brass, didn’t that body used to belong to a fleshy version of yourself?” Izanami, Princess of Gold, asked. “Maybe we can try and bring more from her world here to play with.”

“Hmph! It’s solely my body now, what she used to be doesn’t matter!” Mikai snapped.

Hikari blinked. A good idea, from her? How rare. “Hmmm… that does sound enjoyable. Perhaps the human version of the Brass Queen will be entertaining… you’ll be rewarded for that, Iza~”

Izanami let out a squeak and looked away, trying not to let either girl see the heat building up in her face. Hikari let out an arrogant laugh as she started to plan the day…

Some days, Yoko Himura wished she hadn’t retired. Sure, she might be a bit older than your usual magical girl and may have wanted to live a life that didn’t involve constantly beating the snot out of bad guys. Sure, she loved to be able to settle down with Daichi and raise their daughter together, and mentoring Hikari as a magical girl was more rewarding than she’d expected. All in all, most times she didn’t regret retiring one bit.

But on the other hand… sometimes villains came after her, and she really wished she had that magical amulet on hand.

It had been a normal day and Yoko and Daichi had gone out to dinner. Hikari hadn’t come home for a bit, but that wasn’t unusual - she was an adult, and often stayed out for days or weeks at a time even though she lived with her parents; either crashing on a friend’s couch (or guest suite in Natsuki’s case), or just getting so caught up in the hero business that she stayed out too long. Or, in some cases, been temporarily turned into a minion. That also wasn’t that weird for a magical girl; Daichi had freaked out about it the first time they heard about that, but Yoko was well aware of the peculiar risks a Magical Girl faced; she’d spent nearly a month as a faceless maid doll once, along with an assortment of other changes.

The normal day had changed when they got the call from Chihaya. There was usually a courtesy call when a girl went missing, informing whoever it was of when it happened and what sort of thing they’d been fighting and how long recovery was expected to take. Yoko had, not unexpectedly, received that call. But this time, Chihaya seemed a bit… antsy.

Hikari had ended up as a robot again. This time, though, she seemed to have somehow ended up in charge when the villain’s plan backfired, and her friend Mikai who’d been staying with them had gotten taken as well. It was a surprisingly strong threat this time, and Chihaya had said that they weren’t certain how long it would take to get them back this time. And, more pointedly, told her to be careful - if Hikari was still somewhat self aware, she might go after people she knew.

Yoko hadn’t gone through years and years of being a magical girl without developing an instinct for danger independent of her prior magical abilities. The words had hardly been out of Chihaya’s mouth when Yoko pulled Daichi away from the window; right on cue, the window was broken open.

The minion, assuming it was that, was a gynoid as she’d expected. What she hadn’t expected was the horns, tail, and wings. The gynoid had a draconic look to her, her sleek silver body covered in a dark green pattern that looked like scales. As she recovered from her landing, she looked down at the waiter she’d knocked over who now cowered under a silver heel. Casually, she pushed her foot down - although rather than hurting the man physically, it seemed to spread silver across his body as well…

While that was going on, she scanned the fleeing customers. “Let’s see, let’s see… who was it that Mistress wanted me to take… ah, there you are!” she said cheerfully. “Yoko and Daichi, right? The Princess of Silver demands you come to her court! Be honored! She deigns to meet with mere human-”

Whatever the robo-dragongirl was going to say was lost as a foot met her face. Yoko knocked her back with a spinning kick. “Ow, that didn’t hurt nearly as much when I was younger…” Yoko muttered, rubbing her foot. “Anyway, tell my daughter that just because she’s an adult doesn’t mean I have to start listening to her when she’s being silly, alright? Oh, and also that I hope she’ll be home soon!” Yoko said cheerfully, before grabbing Daichi by the hand and bolting out of the diner.

Kaoru Fushimi was having a very confusing day. She’d been playing a game, she remembered. Not a special game or anything like that, just a fun time waster, so it probably wasn’t that that had caused the confusing events. She’d been worrying about her daughter, as a mother is wont to do, especially when they go running off with a friend without more than a text! But on the other hand, it was nice that Mikai had friends now, and that woman had been very dramatic and loud but she didn’t seem like a bad person.

And one moment, she’d been thinking all that. The next moment, in the space of time it took for her to blink, she’d been falling through a swirly purply void and spat out in a park. She’d played some games with concepts like that, so she’d known what to do first - check off the date, the location, figure out what sort of setting she was in, all that.

She hadn’t time travelled. At least she didn’t think so, or if she did it wasn’t too far one way or the other - the city seemed not unlike the one she’d just left, in terms of advancement. So she wasn’t in a fantasy world or a science fiction thing or a video game. So the next on the isekai checklist was figuring out just where the heck she was. It got her some odd looks, but she eventually teased out the name “Matsushita City”.

Now, she’d never heard that name before. She wasn’t a geography wizard, but she was pretty sure she’d have heard of a city as big as that one - especially after she heard it was an artificial island! Which made her contemplate revising her designation of the world as not-scifi. Whatever else it said, it did make her pretty confident she wasn’t in Kansas anymore (or Mimoto for that matter).

After that, she’d spent the last bit of time wandering the streets, getting a lay of the land. Hadn’t that Izanami woman mentioned a place called Matsushita City in one of her chuunibyou-sounding rants? Maybe she’d ended up where Mikai was, somehow!

She was shocked out of her reverie by a loud crashing sound up ahead, along with a lot of people running away. Logic dictated she shouldn’t be too curious about what it was and join the locals - standard advice is that if a disaster happens abroad, take your cues from the people who live there. But given they weren’t even screaming really, this didn’t seem like an odd occurrence to them, whatever it was. So maybe it wasn’t so bad?

Kaoru’s curiosity got the better of her in the end - she just had to go and see what it was! She walked towards the disturbance, trying to get a better idea of what it was - maybe she’d be able to find someone with authority she could ask some questions?

It wasn’t long before she saw the source of the disturbance. Specifically, a silver woman with wings and a tail harassing a couple! She was flanked by several other silver women, who surrounded the couple from all sides to cut off their escape. The woman who was currently under threat - a short but fit looking lady - occasionally lashed out with a kick or a punch when someone got too close, and the man followed suit, if a bit slower.

This, Kaoru could understand. It didn’t seem all that unlike the Jotaijin that ran amok back in Mimoto! She ducked behind a bus-stop, trying to keep out of sight. She wasn’t an idiot, she knew when she was out of her depth!

Meanwhile, Yoko was not feeling great. They’d managed to keep away for a surprisingly long while, but now they were surrounded. The dragongirl was really persistent, even though Yoko had managed to get a good few kicks in.

“Now, just give up and come with me,” the robo-dragon was saying, “Or I’m going to have to get unpleasant.”

Yoko had no plans to wait around. She dashed towards one of the gynoids surrounding her and Daichi, and knocked it to the ground with an axe kick; if she and Daichi could just break out-

“Fine, have it your way! Mistress can fix you to her liking when I bring you back!” The dragoness snapped. She puffed up her chest, as if taking a deep breath…

Daichi saw the attack coming. He wasn’t as well trained as Yoko, he’d just been a guy trying to help back in the day; usually, Yoko had had to pull him out of the fire when he let himself be too hot-blooded in his efforts. He’d mellowed out a bit over the years, but the hot-blooded heroism never really left him. Yoko found herself shoved out of the way as Daichi leapt in front of the fiery blue breath.

Kaoru, from her hiding place, gasped - such a heroic move! It reminded her of what her husband said she was like as a younger woman, always pushing herself beyond what was reasonable in the effort to help.

“Crap-” Yoko gasped, and in her hiding place Kaoru couldn’t help but cry out in shock. The flames covered Daichi completely - but of course, Matsushita City being the place it was, these weren’t the burning and killing kind.

Daichi groaned as the flames coated him - it didn’t hurt, it felt strange. His clothes vanished in nearly an instant, burnt away by the flame as useless material. But his skin was another story. He could feel the flames burning away his human skin, leaving shiny silver in it’s place. His body began to shift, his hips widening and waist narrowing; he sort of expected it, as most villains in this city seemed to prefer female minions.

As there was less and less human skin left on his increasingly more feminine and metallic body, he started to press through the flames towards their source. He was going to be transformed but he’d try and give Yoko a chance to run! As he approached, he could feel his manhood vanishing into his body, while his chest swelled as two new mammaries made their appearance.

“What do you think you’re doing?” The dragoness demanded, as Daichi approached, before taking another breath and renewing her attack. Metal wings burst from the minion in the making’s back, and a tail started to press out of her rear - but Daichi had no plan to stop as she leapt onto the dragoness, using her new metallic weight to knock her over.

The flames mostly cleared, revealing the newly made dragon-gynoid atop her creator. The original dragoness robot tried to push her off, but to no avail. “Hmph! You asked for this!” the villain shouted, taking another deep breath.

“Run, get help!” Daichi shouted back, before the third blast was shot directly into her face.

The flames rapidly burned away Daichi’s thoughts, her humanity, her identity; without any magic to resist, even her will could be broken with enough magic. Why had she been so angry at Mistress? Why did she want to fight so badly? That was so very stupid - Daiko was a loyal dragon!

This time, when the flames cleared, it wasn’t Daichi anymore. The dragons separated, the newer one throwing up a sloppy salute. “Daiko, reporting for duty, Mistress!” she said proudly.

The original dragoness sighed. Finally! “Go take that human,” she said, pointing towards the fleeing Yoko. “Hold her still for me.”

The hiding woman nearby watched with horror as the new minion leapt on her former wife, holding her still as the villainess approached. She… couldn’t just sit here, could she? They were too close now for her to run away, but she also couldn’t just stay there and hide.

While Kaoru’s mind wrestled with indecision though, her body acted. She found herself in between the couple and the dragoness, arms outstretched to bar her way. “Huh- I-I mean, leave them alone! What have they done to you to deserve this?” she demanded, trying to sound confident.

The dragon-gynoid looked at her blankly for several seconds. The woman on the ground, and her minionized husband on top of her, looked at her with confusion. Even the assorted generic minions stared. Kaoru felt her face flush a bit. Well, now this was just embarrassing.

“...You seem to be a particularly unintelligent human.” The dragoness said.

“Lady, forget about me, run!” The woman said, “It’s fine, this happens now and then-”

“It’s not fine! I’m not letting them turn you against each other like that, I’m not letting them take you for no good reason!” Kaoru shouted. She didn’t know why she felt so strongly about this - maybe her daughter was getting to her. But she had to help, somehow. She had to-

Light. The world went white - it wasn’t that the dragon had breathed on her, though she’d been preparing to do so; the light came from somewhere else.

“Huh. Late bloomer. Never would have guessed.” Said the woman on the ground behind Kaoru, although she couldn’t see her through all the light.

“W-What’s happening!?” Kaoru shouted, patting herself down - where was that light coming from? Was she on fire or something!?

“Magical Awakening! Usually it doesn't happen in someone past their teens, but there’s a first time for everything!” the woman said, seemingly shockingly casual by Kaoru’s estimate.

“Magical what-now?” Kaoru said. “What-”

“Well, it might help us get out of this! Focus!” Yoko said.

“Focus on what!? What’s going on!?” Kaoru shouted. This was freaking her out-

“Calm down first! My name’s Yoko, good to meet you - I’m an expert on this kind of stuff, so trust me. What’s your name?”

“Shut up human!” The dragoness demanded - but since Kaoru wasn’t currently growing mechanical wings, something about what was going on was clearly blocking her.

“I-I’m Kaoru-”

“That’s great Kaoru,” Yoko said, speaking in a calm voice. It was… good to have someone who understood the situation, at least, “Keep calm like that. Focus that light - if you could have it do something right now, what would you want it to do? Pretend it can do whatever it is you want.”

“I-I want to save you… and find my daughter…” Kaoru said, taking deep breaths.

“Perfect. Now, think of that light… illuminating the darkness.” Yoko prompted. “Pushing back the villains, the mysteries - imagine yourself making it do that…”

Kaoru tried to imagine it. Using that light to push away the villain that was attacking them. Using it to find out where Mikai was. Using it to help people…

The light, blinding as it was, seemed to intensify further before suddenly dying out. For a moment, Kaoru had thought that she’d messed up, killed whatever it was before it could properly begin. She brushed some white hair out of her face - wait, white? She wasn’t that old!

Kaoru found herself a changed woman as she examined herself. To start with, her hair had gotten longer, and turned pure white, giving off an iridescent shine. Her clothing had changed, her casual jacket and sweatpants vanished into who knows where, and replaced with… she blushed a bit, looking at the gold-trimmed white leotard she now wore - it clung to her body so tightly, and it had a heart-shaped cleavage window showing entirely too much skin for her comfort. It had some fairly short side skirts to give it a touch of modesty. The ensemble was finished off by some white heeled boots and matching gloves.

She felt… good, surprisingly. The embarrassingly revealing outfit aside that is. It was like she was suddenly a lot more fit than she’d ever been in her life, and filled with energy. She kinda just wanted to go running around the city.

“Great job Kaoru!” Yoko cheered. “Now I really hope you’re a fast learner! I was an artifact type not an innate-ability type, but unless something’s wildly different you should have an instinctive knowledge of how to use your powers.”

Oh, right. They were in a fight. Kaoru turned to look at the dragon-robot, just in time to see her breathing a plume of flame towards her.

“Wah!” Kaoru cried out, putting her hands up in front of her face and flinching back. When she didn’t burn to a crisp (or turn into a robot), she opened her eyes to see a wall of solid light between her and the fire. “Woaaah…”

“Hmph!” The dragoness scoffed as the fire faded, “I guess I’ll be taking you back too! Mistress will be interested in another magical minion!”

This was like some kind of video game, Kaoru thought. She’d just used her block. So she had to have other attacks, right? Was this a fighting game, or a shooter, or an RPG, then?

“Most stuff you can do will be pretty automatic!” Yoko shouted. “Starting out at least, just try and think of what you want to do in familiar terms, and your magic will try and make it happen.”

Alright! Kaoru could work with that! She pointed a hand towards the dragoness. Light Beam! She thought intensely, and on cue a beam of light shot from her hand. The dragoness dodged, but it swept through two of her minions and knocked them back. “Oh, sorry! But I did something!” Kaoru shouted triumphantly.

“That’s great! Looks like you’re pretty strong, lucky break! Now, just keep that up…”

Kaoru nodded. In her head, there was a battle screen - FIGHT, ITEM, DEFEND, RUN, the usual assortment. So it was just a matter of picking the right moves…

She soon found she was fast - not quite fast as light, but still faster than the dragon. When she tried to run up at her, she moved too fast and collided with the gynoid! That was a good opportunity to test another attack. “Light Sword!” she shouted, and her hand held a steady beam of light with which she slashed at the villain.

The villain narrowly escaped with a cut to show for it. “Grrr- how dare you mark my perfect metal!” she shouted, launching herself at Kaoru with claws out.

“Barrier Shield!” Kaoru shouted, repeating the earlier light-wall. She could get used to this!

The fight went on, Kaoru inventing new attacks and defenses as quick as she could. Yoko had been right, it was all instinct! She could do this, she could save them!

She had to knock out a few of the minions as they tried to help their Mistress (she apologized profusely to each of them, especially Daiko), and soon, it was a one on one. The dragoness was cut up and Kaoru was bruised, but clearly winning!

“You’re not allowed to be so competent, human! That’s the domain of machines!” she snapped.

“I don’t even know your name, and you can’t intimidate me anymore!” Kaoru shot back. Heroic banter! She’d always wanted to try that.

The dragoness-robot roared again, her anger getting the best of her as she charged down Kaoru. Running on instinct, Kaoru backed up - and tried to charge up a blast. This time, the blast didn’t just knock her around; the dragoness caught it dead in the chest, and it sent her flying. She hit a wall and crumpled to the ground, but didn’t get back up, groaning as electricity arc’d around the dent in her back.

“Sorry… will she be ok?” Kaoru asked.

Yoko shrugged. “Probably? The MGA is pretty good about that kind of thing. They’ll get her back to normal before locking her up.”

“MGA?” Kaoru asked, confused.

Yoko raised an eyebrow. “Magical Girl Association? You must not be from around here.” she said. “You’re probably going to have to sign up so you don’t get the book thrown at you for unlicensed magic. Thanks for that, by the way.”

“O-Oh, it was no problem.” Kaoru said, blushing. This woman was very nice. “Uh… is your husband going to be ok? Will you have to, uh, I don’t know, reprogram her or something?”

“The MGA deals with that kind of thing on a daily basis.” Yoko said casually. “He’ll be apologizing for a week, but no harm done long term. I’m gonna call them up in a minute, want to take a ride with me to the HQ?”

“Thanks…” Kaoru said. “But Mikai’s waiting somewhere for me… I have to find her.”

Yoko blinked. “...Mikai. Blonde, short, bundle of friendship and positivity?”

Kaoru nodded fervently. “Yes, that sounds like her! Did you see her!?”

The smaller woman laughed. “Lot more than that, she’s been staying at my place! My daughter Hikari brought her over one day, said that she was in town visiting a friend and needed a place to crash.”

Maybe there was such a thing as miracles - of all the people in this huge city, she’d saved one who not only knew Mikai, was letting her stay. Kaoru launched into hugging Yoko. “Oh, thank you! I was worried! She said she was staying with a friend, but I haven’t been able to contact her so…”

Yoko seemed surprised, but comforted her a bit by patting her on the back. She seemed a bit… pained though. “Well… she was staying with me… Now, well… I’m pretty sure something’s happened to both our daughters.”

Kaoru gasped. “What? What is it? Are they ok?”

“Well, they’re not hurt… but just before that villain showed up, I got off the phone with my friend at the MGA. Hikari works as a Magical Girl and the job has… hazards. Apparently last time they were seen was charging up to some robot woman, and the next thing we here there’s three villains running around.”

“Oh no! Jotaijin got them…” Kaoru said.

“I’m not sure what a Jotaijin is… but something did, at least.” Yoko said. “The MGA is great at reversing that kind of thing though, so once the magical girls can get their hands on them, they’ll be fine…”

“I’ll help!” Kaoru said instantly. “I’m a, uh, magical girl now right? So I can help!”

Yoko raised an eyebrow. “From the sounds of it, they’re way stronger than that villain just now - I think they actually sent her. You sure? We do have some strong girls…”

“Can you train me? Like you were just then?” Kaoru asked. “I have to help her!”

Yoko rubbed the back of her forehead. Sirens were getting close now - the MGA had detected that the situation was resolved. “I… yeah. Sure. I do that for my daughter, why not for someone else for a change?”

Kaoru nodded. It had been a wild, confusing, crazy day. But now she knew where her daughter was, and she knew she needed help.
