Welp, if this is it...its been a hell of a ride for the QBSPC because of JF1 & DaBears.
As always, I appreciate the support. -JTO

Justin Fields Week 18 Full-Game Analysis

Comments

I would love to have you as Fields QB coach.

Brickbybrick

it wasn't the refs, the independent neurologist demanded it

Veronica toothpaste

Burrow had one of the best receiving corps in the game that year. Oh, and a competent OC.

ShyGuy

That first window of the slant is wide open, the backer covering the #3 on that side is going with him opening up that window. He's the read and as soon as he bites down and heads outside that ball should come out.

ShyGuy

JT, on the failed slant to 15 towards the end of the game - Bears twitter is convinced that the 1st window is not open. I never played football, and to my untrained eye, I think a QB can make that tight window throw. Especially if thrown with A. Obviously 2nd window is wide open. Appreciate your thoughts.

Michael Dickeson

Yea , to make it worse it was a key 3rd down play & # 15 is the smallest WR asked to block a DE on Green Bay ! OC Getsy sabotaged the Offense.

Alan Gregori

Yep , besides the Lineman not knowing what " Most Dangerous Man " means ! TY JT for that football knowledge.

Alan Gregori

Yes , JT would be so much better calling the plays ! Word is its looking like Frank Reich or 49ers passing game coach Klint Kubiak.

Alan Gregori

Bears O Line is worse by far ! Not even close because the blocking scheme by OC Getsy caused many untouched Blitzers to be free to lay on Justin Fields. Every game he took at least one hit to the head that would take out any QB for the year. Even the RBs can't pick up Blitzers - 1st time in many games actually saw # 23 Johnson block a GB Blitzer. The Center Fenney / Guards Jenkins & Davis have trouble picking up stunts by the D Line every pass play ! Key 3rd down play had # 15 blocking a DE on a run play around the right side ! Getting blown up because the OC Getsy calling the frinkin plays.

Alan Gregori

Thanks JT! I really appreciate the way you break down film for all of us fans to understand. It’s hard being a Bears fan lol, I wanted us to get Jim Harbaugh and Caleb and they already passed on Jim… hopefully they don’t pass on Caleb. Also in the off-season do you go back and cover college and/or the QBs in the draft? This season was my first time on the Patreon so I just wanted to ask what happens in the off-season on here. I appreciate you!

Matt G

Loved your videos all year. Can’t wait for next year, whatever it looks like. Maybe you should apply for the QB Coach opening 🙏🏼

Jason Myers

I love love the JF1 videos this year. Thank you.

JBSea

I’m not happy about Chris Morgan being kept. I have a video of two bears o-lineman blocking one another. Seen many clips of linemen pass blocking dBs while Johnson then has to get the edge rusher. I don’t feel like the line was professionally ready to play in the NFL.

Joseph Heidenreich

“You’re not playing Joe Barry every week.” That says it all for me as a Packers fan.

Charles M Olmsted

Absolutely the scariest scenario to me as a Packers fan.

Charles M Olmsted

Taking into account my bias as a Packers fan, to me the scariest outcome is the Bears bringing back Justin Fields with a smart OC, another good offensive lineman, and Marvin Harrison, Jr. The current Bears roster seems like it is on the cusp. It just needs a much better offensive scheme. A new OC and Caleb Moore just doesn’t scare me as much as a Bears team with a better offensive line and more weapons.

Charles M Olmsted

I don’t think a QB can have it both ways though. If you are normally running for your life and occasionally for a first down, you should get protected. If you are constantly running for the first down or TD, you don’t. It’s a tough call, because the league has to protect its stars and most important players, but the game absolutely fucking sucks if a QB can run all over the field with impunity. As JT has said numerous times this season, a strong QB run game is such an advantage because you always have the numbers advantage. There’s nothing worse to me than watching a running quarterback get all the runs and all the calls. I would love to see Hurts or Mahomes get fewer calls in their favor.

Charles M Olmsted

Dying laughing at the 23:00 mark: "I'm just trying to figure out how this even gets into the plan. Like, a 2nd and 2, what do we like this week? Uh, I like this play where we pull the guard, fake same side action, ask the really small wide receiver to pin an edge, and have our third tight end bullshit motion lead out."

Alex Agran

Thanks, JT. I wish more Bears fans were able to see this objectively. Wishing nothing but the best for Justin, but it’s time to move on.

Edward Bills

Two things, one, can you honestly say if you put any of the top 10 QBs in place of Fields this year that they would do that much better if at all? Minus Mahomes because well Mahomes is Mahomes. He’s a unicorn lol. Any one else tho? After all these breakdowns showing missed assignments by players, terrible scheming, O-Line blocking, running back blocking. Do you honestly think they would have won more games? Secondly, as already stated, Burrow had a better OC, better weapons, better team overall. There is so much more to a football team than the QB. Multiple historic qbs have said that once they got a certain OC or better weapons around them, it saved their careers and was their reason for success. It’s proved over and over again. Some QBs waste their entire careers in shitty situations. Aaron Rodgers has one Super Bowl. They were good enough for the playoff almost every year, but he alone couldn’t force them into a superbowl. It takes the entire team, including coaching.

Kyle Null

OC Getsy, gone. WR coach Tolbert, gone. QB coach Janocko, gone. RB coach Omar Young, gone. Assistant TE coach Zetts, gone. (HC Eberflus retained, OL coach Chris Morgan retained)

Edward Sell

This is a common thing going around this week. Someone said it and now everyone’s regurgitating it but it’s easily debunked. Burrow not only had an offensive head coach, but also two stud WR1s in Chase and Higgins and a top receiver in Tyler Boyd. Also, Joe Mixon at RB. He had the weapons and the coaches to make it work. We don’t. It’s common sense!

Ste Parkinson

What are you doing next fall JT? Bears are in the market for a OC and QB coach. Kept Eberflus though.

Bill4632

Burrow had an arguably worse o-line and took his team to the SB in year 2. Yes, everything around JF has been awful. But special QBs find a way and elevate the team around them. Just at best doesn't do that and at worst makes his teammates look worse. I don't think Justin is a *bad* QB but with the offensive staff gone and this QB draft class the Bears would be foolish to try to squeaze any more out of him.

elchupinazo

The reason the backup qb came in for a play was because fields got hit so fucking hard that the refs pulled him off for a concussion check (no flag btw). Imagine not giving a dude a call but pulling him out cuz he got hit that hard in the head while sliding lmao.

Cody Britt

After watching all of these breakdowns of the offense this season I can agree that Fields has been inconsistent at times, doesn’t see open receivers on time, and leaves the pocket early sometimes. But can you really blame him? He can’t trust his offensive line, and he can’t trust his receivers to catch the ball (except for Moore). Over and over again the plays take way too long to develop and almost every time at least one linemen gets beat or the RB misses a block. So he can’t trust anything consistently. On top of that there have been countless times on breakdowns where JT has said “WTF is this play”, or how no NFL teams runs a play/scheme like this. The only thing he can trust is that someone is going to most likely get beat or miss a block and he has a better chance if he runs out of the pocket before he gets sacked. That’s been the case for three seasons. When that’s how you have to play, it’s probably more of a surprise when the play is actually ran correctly and he has time. The other thing that I think gets overlooked is that when we see these breakdowns of the O-line and how unorthodox the blocking scheme is sometimes, why can’t we assume that he’s being coached the same way at QB. His drops, his timing, which reads are first, when and where to go with the ball. He gets so much criticism for these things but yet no one really knows what he is actually being taught or told to do within the play. There is more evidence from all the other positions doing wrong/unorthodox things that would make more sense to believe he is probably being taught to do wrong/unorthodox things as well. Add that into all the inconsistency and not being able to trust the O-line receivers and it’s no wonder Fields hasn’t taken the big leap like other QBs. Despite all of that, he has still shown some improvement and explosive plays. They have found some success based solely on his elite athletic ability and being able to make something out of nothing.

Kyle Null

Thanks JT. I'm with the others and you have taught us a lot this year. I don't think Fields is salvageable in Chicago. Obviously we have to fire the OC anyways, so who knows maybe they run it back one last time with Fields on the cheap, a new OC and Caleb on the sidelines to give the O line another year. The amazing part is that this team won 7 games this year.

Dan Kunze

Great breakdown JT. Thanks for the effort, worth every penny.

Ste Parkinson

I can’t wait to see how bad this was… 🤦🏾‍♂️

Brandon Harris

That Madden comment is so real. I’m so much better at out routes and comebacks since watching JT because I throw at the break lol. Used to get pick-sixed constantly, now it’s easy money in man.

NoArchieNoParty

Bears just haven’t been a good enough org over the last 10 years to muddle through with Fields at QB. He’s not had enough help for sure, but he’s not taking this team anywhere unless he has 85 Bears level of help.

NoArchieNoParty

Thanks, JT. I'm struggling. All the turn downs from JF1 ... I can't tell if it's PTSD from running for his life all the time and confusion in the scheme, or just not seeing it. Probably a combo. Either way, so many of us connect to the story of the dude's struggle and it's why we love seeing him succeed. I didn't see him though as a consistent click through the reads guy, or the consistent throw guys open guy, though he does both sometimes. And that's probably the same with so many starting and even super bowl winning QBs. Shit is hard. We just don't have the pieces around a QB right now for that to be ok, from oline to WRs, RBs (who even is our 3rd down RB?), and especially not play caller. To me, that means we have to draft a QB that consistently doesn't turn down throws and try like hell to get known quantities to protect him. Long rant but I said it early in the year that I needed someone to narrate this chapter of Justin and the Bears and you helped us all see it more clearly. Thank you. Can't wait to watch next year.

sean quincey

You're a (ear muffs me) fucking champ for watching every Bears offensive rep.

Jacob LaGrou

Tom Brady hates you ball 😂😂😂 thanks for everything this season. Sorry you had to watch da bears for 18 weeks. I’ve gotten more knowledgeable about the qb position and unfortunately offensive schemes/run blocking/etc. see ya next year JT.

Tyler Purkey

I’ve learned so much from these videos. It seems like I have gotten ten times better at madden. As a bears fan I just want to see Justin fields succeed, and I think he can do that. (Bias) I think my dad hates me when I recap all of your vids to him. All in all I want to say thank you for always being there and sitting through every play of the bears season with us. JT > Aaron Rodgers

Seth Buchholtz

Isn’t #15 the dude they kept sending inside against Baltimore to blunt the MLB, and he kept getting killed? It was the Smothers Brothers: “take it, Tom”... “nooooooo”

DeMeritus

Appreciate all year going through this grind. Taught me so much and made me such a better fan of the team and the game of football. If you don’t mind me asking as you see so many offenses…if you got a new OC, what scheme are you looking to maximize JF? Around here tonight people like Bienemy if you run it back. Do you think he fits?

John Spiropoulos

Does it bother you that 65 makes $13 mm a year? If Justin stays, what available OC would you recommend for him?

Peter Van Der Mije

Thanks JT. I can't believe I watched that much Bears football and I can't believe you broke down that much Bears football. (No offese Bears fans) Thanks again and hoping we see some more of Fields somewhere next yr.

Joe M

There really just isn’t a lot of hope for me as a Bears fan. I think they need to go QB at 1, but no way I would ever want Matt Eberflus as the head coach for that. All signs are pointing to him returning with a new OC. Fully prepared for Eberflus to be fired a year from now and the Bears to be starting over with a new offensive system for a QB going into their second year

Jack Long

Loved the analysis this year JT! Sorry you had to watch this terrible offense.

Joe Brcak

when Cam was in the league, he had the exact same no-calls on hits to the head. there is just something about running QBs where they don't get those calls. it shortened Cam's career by ten years, probably.

Sunscryer

Drove three hours north to see this. The difference between him and love on the field live in real time was blatant. Scheme is an issue yes, but one dude just looked like he gets it, the other looked like a rookie/backup when in the pocket. Loved fields, rooted hard for him but it’s time…

Brandon Washington

Ten step program for Poles 1. New OC 2. Trade 1 down to 2 (so Bienamy can pick Caleb), get 1/2 and 2 second rounders 3 trade down 2 again to Raiders for 1st and 2nd 4 select OT with first pick 5 select DT from Illini w second pick 9 6a pick best available qb in second round. JJ or Nix 6b pick IOL in second round 6c pick edge in second round 7 sign Mike Evans 8 keep Justin, if he wins in 24 extend him 9 new QB sits for 1-3 years (like Brady, Rogers, Mahomes, Love) 10 win 5 Super Bowl in next 10 years

Hungry Brewer

I think Fields will succeed in a good system with a good team around him. Worst case scenario with running it back with Fields and using all the draft capital from trading down from #1 overall is that you have built an elite team and then you can use your draft capital next season to trade up for the QB you want. And then that rookie QB is setup to succeed right away with weapons on offense, a good OL and a great defense.

Mike JY

Which is why I do not agree with people thinking that just changing QBs will fix this. This is a systemic problem with this offense. The scheme is awful. The coaching up of WRs for route-running and OL for blocking assignments is awful. And design of plays is awful. And if I see another freaking WR screen... I do not buy into people thinking that Williams or Maye are generational talents that need to be taken instead of Bears turning that #1 overall pick into a massive haul. Bears have too many needs to pass on that opportunity. Trade down to get MHJ, a 24 Rd2 and a 25 Rd1 as a starting point. Then build up around Fields. My preference is for Bears to start over with coaching staff. Bring in an offensive-minded HC, so that when the OC predictably leaves in 2 seasons to take a HC position, Fields will still have stability with the offensive system (similar to Reid-Mahomes, McVay-Stafford, McDaniel-Tua, Taylor-Burrow, Shanahan-Purdy. My preference is Jim Harbaugh.

Mike JY

In regards to the end of the vid, I absolutely agree that Fields just isn't good enough on the trajectory he's taken so far. I just have a hard time separating why he's on that trajectory. Ultimately a quarterback is responsible for his own development, but since he's been in the league he's had Matt Nagy's idiot ass for a year and the worst OC Chicago has had in 30 years in Luke Getsy for the other 2 years. At this point I think he's spent too much time being taught wrong and fixing him would be more of a project than starting from scratch with a rookie. I really wanted to see him succeed, but Fields' time is over in Chicago.

Rob

This is my thought as well. Had I not watched JT O'Sullivan's video breakdowns this season, I would not have seen just how utterly awful the OL play has been in pass blocking and run blocking. Lineman blatantly missing assignments allowing rushers to run free, lineman running into one another, lineman blocking wrong people, lineman running the wrong way. Just brutal. This video had plenty of that as well. Dumpster fire and "what the fuck are we doing?" has been stated by JTO'S so many times this season with regards to the Bears offense. Just brutal.

Mike JY

Appreciate your work JT. It can’t be easy watching every single bears game. It’s hard enough as a fan.

Joseph Heidenreich

"I'm sure 65 is a nice guy.." Nothing ever good is said following a line like that.

king Steph

JT thanks for all the breakdowns this year, learned a hell of a lot and wore out my earmuffs 😂. I’m a Fields guy so really want him to succeed but I think getsy and eberflus may have instilled some tough traits to come back from with the whole “200” principal and neutering him from taking any chances. On a positive note from a business perspective, if the bears do move on from Fields you’ll get a ton of views on both your Fields and Williams breakdowns from Bears fans

Robert Moauro

Bagent was sick, they pulled Justin to check him for a concussion.

Scoreboard23

Waiting for the J10VE video! Also I gotta say JT, it’s awesome to watch these videos and be able to pick up on the things you discuss while watching the games live. Adds a lot more fun to the games! Thanks

Billy Borchert

I'd rather take the chance on JF1 + MHJ and a new OC and another extra 1st next year because Getsy has been THAT bad and there's a high ceiling next year with JF1/Moore/Harrison Jr/Kmet and a good OC rather than waiting on Caleb to develop. Just feels terrible to see him so poorly coached when his talent is so great. Absolute class act of a human too.

Kyle Caffero

With a new OC, why not trade back, get Marvin Harrison Jr, best OL player available in 1st round, pick up another 2025 1st round pick with more draft picks, resign JJ, find a 3 technique, and give Justin one more year? JT, who is the top 2025 QB draft prospect?

Bear30

Hey JT, unrelated to JF, but with all your tape you have seen this year, it would be great if you could put together a compilation type video of IDK top 10 best passes, or a comparison of those QBs that best exhibit the top 3-4 successful QB traits. I think you have a ton of knowledge and would be great to get a more general overview on who you think does it best

dwc

Would be great to see some breakdowns of Caleb playing in structure. My concern is that he does all of the same stuff as Fields just in a smaller less athletic frame. But admittedly I haven’t gone over his tape.

Mark Bala

How is Luke Getsy still employed?

Matthew Hartmann

i think i have a bunch of Caleb

The QB School

Ugh, really wish Justin would have developed into the guy. But man does he just still have the same problems he did last year. Small steps when we needed big ones.

Joseph Van Horn

Lmao after the first 5 minutes of this video and scouring the internet for analysis of how Caleb Williams plays in structure, I feel 95 percent confident Caleb Williams will be in Chicago next year.

Andrew Contreras

No matter what happens for JF1 and the Bears thank you JT for the coverage. It’s been quite a year.

James Matousek

Trade the 1st pick for Justin Herbert. Bring in Harbaugh. Draft Odunze. Win a lot.

Jared Atkinson

Almost can't bring myself to watch this one. End of an era.

Eric Dodge

Bear down!!!

Billy Thompson

Either way it falls justin or Caleb you'll have plenty of content and wild over reactions in the comments don't you worry
