But that's not the point, the point is Michigan wouldn't head into the game against Iowa not caring about winning if it placed them in a position where they potentially don't get into the playoff, which it undoubtedly would. So... by that logic they didn't go into the Iowa game trying to hide their plays, but to win the game. Just because they won it the same way they have all season does not in any way indicate they were hiding plays from other teams they could face. Like, no shit they didn't use their custom plays in a game they didn't need to because they had a lead and were never truly threatened. That's not insightful. Or do you think they came into the Iowa game not prepped to run any of those similar plays if they needed to? Their priority was winning the game heading into the game. Not hiding plays from potential future match ups.

2024-03-01 19:37:49 +0000 UTCAs for the CFP thing, I said I was being hyperbolic, but based on the CFP's history, they place a stronger value on who you beat than who you lost to. Michigan had the higher SOR than Georgia, which is a metric the CFP relies on a lot. But, again, what would I know?

In the Penn State, Ohio State, and Alabama games they used plays and formations that they hadn't used in any game prior. But what would I know? I've only watched every play they ran this season.

To act like they knew they were going into the game guaranteed a spot in the playoff is just factually wrong in so many ways. Running the plays they did was more beacuse they were up and knew Iowa couldn't score, not because they came into the game hiding their cards for the playoff. They had zero care about this game's film being used for their playoff match.

They knew 10 points would likely be enough. This was basically the same game plan Michigan used for every game it played over the first two months of the season.

They certainly don't go into a title game thinking they don't need to win this so let's not show our best stuff... You also don't think a loss wasn't a concern to them here? Michigan loses and Georgia easily gets in over them even after losing to Bama.

However, concerning the game plan, Michigan wanted to win this game, but it did not need to win this game. It was in the CFP no matter what happened. It also knew 10 points was going to be enough to win this game because, seriously, watch the Iowa offense with Deacon Hill at QB. They were never scoring on offense in this game. Michigan approached this entire game with the idea of putting nothing on tape for a playoff opponent.
