Deleted scene of the Maxtor spin-up

Here's what the Maxtor drive is doing when it's improvising Tom Morello. Seems like it's not detecting when it's at the edge of the disk. Maybe there's hope for it yet?

The most likely answer though is still one of the heads has crashed and is dragging on its platter, but I don't know of any way you could verify that without complete disassmebly.

2023-05-06 06:07:27 +0000 UTCThe head parking mechanism is working, and the spindle looks to be spinning freely. It **looks** like it is grinding against the back-stop disk thingy. I am not sure what the initialization routine is for this drive, but it could very well want to send the heads to the two extremes in order to calibrate. I would look at the interaction between the head arm and that disk back-stop thingy. Should that mechanism somehow slide under it and is being blocked? is it supposed to rotate somehow? or is there supposed to be some sort of detector that is failing to detect it has reached it for some reason? I **think** that is where things are going wrong, but I am not talking from experience here.
