Pre-release and some more info
Added 2024-03-02 00:16:19 +0000 UTCWell, just as I was getting my upload schedule back on-track, I got demolished by the early arrival of allergy season... You probably heard the beginning stages of it in my most-recent video. Not wanting to immortalize my stuffy-nose voice cost me two uploads... Luckily, I'm mostly back to normal now so we get to have a video release this weekend! Had these mid-late '90s Compaq desktops staring at me for a while that seemed to be in better condition than their outside condition foretold. In this video I decided to find out.
Also, I'm very happy to receive reports of the safe arrival of the systems and empty cases which found new homes! That was my biggest fear with starting hardware sales, so it's good to know my packing method is working (though I've only received word on 4 out of the 7 systems sold). In total, I used about 400 feet (122 meters) on 7 systems and cases. Also, on empty cases I've opted to remove and wrap their faceplates separately, which seems to be a good move. I was running a bit paranoid because the very day I started shipping these, I received an IBM PS/1 Consultant 2155-86C which didn't exactly get through its journey unscathed... Faceplate got smashed. Granted, it seems as though it was packed by a person who's never encountered physics before (it had a SINGLE layer of small-bubble wrap... perfectly useless. The rest was crumbled paper). Fortunately, it doesn't seem irreparable, but I'm going to have to put my best plastic-repair skills into practice. Just you wait for the level of snark in THAT video!
Now that I have some data on shipping costs, I can give some general idea: They're ranging between $35 and $50 for cases and complete systems. I'm using PirateShip, which has been really great in terms of pricing. Highly recommended!
Anyways, here's the new video. Hope you like it!

Discovering the wonder that is the neti pot was the second best thing I ever did for my sinuses — the first was letting my ENT fix my deviated septum, along with some other remodeling while he was in there. I would highly recommend NeilMed; they make both a traditional neti pot and a squeeze bottle version that's much easier to use. Plus, the pre-measured salt packets make using it a lot simpler.
