Well I got a bit de-railed this week, but for a very good reason: A third e-waste haul! This one kinda snuck up on me. Had to act fast as the owner of the e-waste facility is moving locations. I had less than a week to organize the trip and get there before the deadline. Well, the deal is done! The husband and I are currently hurtling down the highway with them. There are many gems in this haul, but you probably guessed which one I'm most excited about. The IBM 5160 of course! Oh boy... I've been looking for one of these for many years, but could never stomach the prices people want for them. To get one as part of an e-waste haul is an absolute gift! I haven't even put hands on one of these since I was about 9 or 10 years old. Now all I need is a 5153 or 5154 (one can dream) monitor and Model F keyboard, then I'll finally have my childhood XT back! It's odd that someone opted to swap the hard drive for a second disk drive, but that works out just fine for me. I already have a Seagate ST506 for it (see it's not hoarding, it's preparedness LOL). I'll just have an extra disk drive. As you can see, it is receiving the first-class VIP seating in the cargo van, along with a 486 Gateway 2000.
One curious item is that VersysS 370 system. It has a striking resemblance to an IBM PS/2, and sure enough there is IBM branding on the back. I have some whisper of recollection that VersysS was a thing which involved IBM, but I have no details beyond that. The internet is woefully devoid of info on it. Even ChatGPT and Gemini are completely dumbing out over it. This is exactly the type of mystery that gets me going though. I'd like more context for the video, but the dearth of info is stalling my research. Has anyone ever heard of or have more info on VersysS? The system itself is an IBM type 7012. Based on the ports it's most likely a server platform. That'll officially be the oldest server I own!
Unfortunately, all of those Macs were already spoken for, so I didn't get them. Oh well... That Motorola StarMax 3000/180 Mac clone is mine all mine though!
That Tandy 2500 has me excited as well. Also, we have our first Sony Vaio systems! Ok, I could go on and on. There's so much here I can't wait to explore! But now, it's my turn to take over driving.
Thank you all for your continued enablement of this madness!
