General Tier Name Credits
Added 2024-02-15 02:51:46 +0000 UTCHey, everyone! The Generals among you probably noticed: we have not been adding the names of General to the videos on a regular basis lately.
Though I'm upset at myself just typing this - because I always want to over deliver for the people who support the channel most - the problems were these: (1) we had so many generals (a great problem to have!) that the names were barely legible scrolling across the screen and (2), the main one, YouTube is super putative toward ANYTHING that makes viewers fast-forward or skip ahead, or not watch till the end of a video. The Patreon General Credits, just like movie credits, were basically a cue to people that the video was over, even if it wasn't. The dips in retention we saw, at best, kept people from making it to the End Screens at the end of our videos - the all important opportunity to have people click and watch another video. At worst, they would cue people to click out and stop watching, even with sometimes half a video left to go.
I'm posting this in order to brainstorm solutions with generals. Likely, we will be lowering the price. But I want to try things like having the names in the description, highlighting the photo and name of a special selected member of the Generals. I'm not sure! I guess what I'm asking is, how much did the names in the video credits mean to you, and/or what are some other parts of the Danny Mullen Patreon could be applied as a substitute?

What about adding a sponsored segment featuring your Patreon where you play the subscribes names out and specifically mention at the beginning what they are, sort of how other youtubers do other sponsorships, and doesn't necessarily have to be every video maybe 1 every 3-4 videos.

2024-02-15 13:32:48 +0000 UTCI recommend having the names scroll along the bottom of the screen from the start of the video. Like how news stations have scrolling headlines, do scrolling Generals. Pause the scroll if we need to see the whole screen cause something rad is happening but then resume it and let it run alongside the video. IMO, people will watch and get recognition this way. At the end of the day tho, if the credits aren’t there then I’m still gonna be subscribed cause I’m here for the Patreon exclusives and BTS type shit. There will be some narcissistic dicks that unsubscribe for not seeing their name on the screen but they ain’t loyal to the regime so FUCK EM if you ask me.
