The Second Expedition - Spoiler Full Discussion Thread
Added 2020-09-30 14:35:22 +0000 UTCI've just realized we haven't done this for The Second Expedition!
Feel free to discuss your thoughts about the book here. Theories, favorite moments, questions that bug you, etc. Nothing counts as spoiler here ;)
The e-book is currently going live on Amazon as each timezone reaches midnight, so I'm going to delete the chapters from here and the bookfunnel link will expire very soon.
Thanks for joining Tao on The Second Expedition :D

Thank you for the clarification. I had thought something like that but your clarification means a lot

2020-10-01 19:43:47 +0000 UTCSo, I'm very much following Taoism in its basic sense (as I understand it). And one of the first quotes, literally the first one is... The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao The name that can be named is not the eternal name. But the way I'm seeing it, in ATL is that everyone has their own Tao/Dao. There's the Tao, the one true Way. And then, there's small branches, the 'truth' of each thing. Figuring out your own Dao, the one that works for you and that you can embody, is realistically the entirety of ATL's journey. So it'll slowly be revealed, as Wu Ying stumbles, takes random paths, finds his way blocked or has epiphanies and slowly, learns to embody the principle of Daoism that will elevate him to godhood. So, in general, immortality (the way Wu Ying is doing it), can't be replicated. There's a map (the levels), but how you get there is all very personal.

2020-09-30 18:30:37 +0000 UTCI liked it. I thought it would go in a different direction since i found the previous books ending with less of a clear next step. I do wonder if he will perhaps seek out more guidance from other seniors (elder li/the librarian/etc) and I expected he would. the book made sense i just thought it was heading either in that direction or a more rapid power curve he seemed to be on that before this book). I like that he may have actually made a second ongoing friend since so far he has not added any in the sect since tou hei.
