Changes in JT databases and Update All

Yesterday Jotego decided to change the way he distributes his cores. Until then, he had a JTSTABLE repository that contained the most stable versions of his cores, and a jtbin repository that contained the same stable cores, as well as open and closed betas (by closed, I mean for patrons only). Over time, this 2 repository model proved too much of a maintenance challenge, so he decided to do away with the much-outdated JTSTABLE.

For users of Update All, this is not a breaking change because to avoid possible friction, I now generate two different Downloader databases from jtbin. One contains only open cores and is in the jtcores repository, which will be the default option substituting thus the old JTSTABLE, and the other contains open and closed cores and is in the jtpremium repository. The latter is already active for you if you had previously enabled betas. Both databases are used internally in Update All, so current users will not have to make any adjustments to the settings on the next runs.

When it comes to which cores are installed, the main difference is that the default option previously gave you stable but outdated cores. Now it installs the most updated release for all open cores, including betas like CPS2, which Jotego usually ships in a very mature state anyway. On the other hand, the "premium" option additionally downloads closed cores for patrons only. I think the new default option is much more useful for newcomers, so this is definitely a good change.

For users of the older updater (this script or Update All with Downloader off), things look a little different. You will get all open and closed cores from jtbin from now on, as the JTSTABLE repository will be removed.

Ayer Jotego decidió cambiar la forma en la que distribuyen sus cores. Hasta entonces, tenía un repositorio JTSTABLE que contenía las versiones más estables de sus cores, y un repositorio jtbin que contenía los mismos cores estables, y además betas públicas y privadas (por betas privadas, quiero decir solo para sus patreons). Con el tiempo, este modelo de distribución mediante 2 repositorios de binarios resultó ser demasiado costoso de mantener, por lo que recientemente se decidió eliminar JTSTABLE, que de todas formas ya andaba bastante obsoleto.

Para los usuarios de Update All, este no es un cambio relevante porque para evitar cualquier punto de fricción, ahora genero dos bases de datos diferentes para el Downloader basadas en jtbin. Una que contiene solo cores públicos, y está en el repositorio de jtcores, siendo la opción predeterminada y equivalente a la antigua JTSTABLE, y otra que contiene todos los cores públicos y privados, y se sitúa en el repositorio de jtpremium. Esta última la tendrás ya activa si previamente habías habilitado betas. Ambas bases de datos se utilizan internamente en Update All, por lo que los usuarios no tendréis que tocar nada de la configuración durante las próximas ejecuciones.

Sobre qué cores se instalan, la principal diferencia es que la opción predeterminada anteriormente proporcionaba cores estables pero obsoletos. Sin embargo, ahora instala la versión más actualizada para todos los cores públicos, incluidas las versiones beta de cores como CPS2 (que tratándose de Jotego, el hecho de que sean betas no sería un problema, ya que sus betas son ya de por sí bastante estables). Por otro lado, la opción "premium" también descarga cores privados solo para patreons. Personamente creo que la nueva opción predeterminada es mucho más útil para los recién llegados, así que éste es un buen cambio.

Para los usuarios del Updater viejo (este script o Update All con el Downloader desactivado), las cosas serán un poco diferentes. A partir de ayer, dicho updater bajará todos los cores públicos y privados de jtbin, debido a que el repositorio JTSTABLE será borrado próximamente.
