Downloader 1.4 Final Release and Update All End-of-support announcement for the old Updater

Downloader 1.4 is finally out!

After a month of testing two different beta versions of this release (preview and RC), the new version of the MiSTer Downloader has been finally published. It should be already up and running for users of Update All, and for the users of the standalone downloader .sh launcher.

As some of you may know, the star of this release is the 'Custom Download Filters'  feature. Check here all the documentation about the filters. And don't hesitate start using them, they are stable and compatible with most databases out there! There were other changes and improvements in this release that you can also read here.

Update All End-of-support announcements for the old MiSTer Updater

TL/DR: If you run Update All, and you see this IMPORTANT NOTE from the picture above, please follow its instruction. Otherwise, no need to do anything, nothing changes for you.

With the filters, all useful features from the old Updater are finally implemented in the MiSTer Downloader. Therefore, there are no excuses for continuing to use the old updater anymore. Downloader is now fully-featured and fixes many issues from the old updater, so if you keep using the old one, you would be at risk for no good reason.

That's why I'll stop giving support for the old Updater through Update All at the end of this year. The last day would be 2022-12-31. With Update All you can make the transition to Downloader by following this video. But if you are just using the standalone launcher, install the standalone from the Downloader by following these instructions (and after that, delete update .sh from your device).

You are encouraged to transition as soon as possible. When the date is due, users of Update All that didn't transition to Downloader will no longer receive updates. Additionally, there is a real possibility that the old updater stops working even before that date if their maintainers decide to deactivate it at an earlier point. If that happens, you'll be on your own!

¡Downloader versión 1.4 publicada! 

Tras un mes de testear dos versiones beta (preview y RC), por fin se ha publicado la versión definitiva del MiSTer Downloader 1.4.

Como algunos de vosotros deberíais ya saber, la funcionalidad estrella de esta versión son los filtros de descargas. Puedes aprender a usarlos gracias a este post.

Esta versión también trae consigo otros cambios y mejoras sobre los que puedes leer aquí.

Anuncio fecha fin de soporte para el updater viejo en Update All

TL/DR: Si te sale ese mensaje de la foto de arriba, ve a la SETTINGS screen presionando arriba y activa el Downloader. Si no te aparece, no tienes que hacer nada. Ya estás al día.

Ahora que hay filtros de descargas, ya tenemos todas las funcionalidades importantes del updater viejo implementadas en el MiSTer Downloader. Por eso, ya no cabe ninguna excusa para seguir usando el updater viejo. Downloader es ahora mejor en todos los sentidos, así que si sigues usando el updater viejo, te estarías poniendo en riesgo de manera injustificada.

Por eso voy a dejar de darle soporte al updater viejo en Update All al final de este año. El último día sería el 2022-12-31. Con Update All puedes hacer la transición al Downloader siguiendo este vídeo. Y si usas el script update .sh, simplemente bórralo e instala el lanzador del Downloader siguiendo estas instrucciones.

Se recomienda encarecidamente que se haga la transición cuanto antes sea posible. Cuando la fecha llegue, los usuarios de Update All que no hayan activado el Downloader no recibirán más actualizaciones. Además, es posible que el updater viejo deje de funcionar antes de tal fecha si sus mantenedores deciden desactivarlo antes de que llegue ese día. Si eso pasara, ¡estarías en problemas!
