"Trapdoor" from RWBY Vol. 9 Soundtrack (Live Sing-Through)

Been wanting to record a sing-through of some of my favorite tracks from the RWBY Volume 9 soundtrack, so here is the first! This song was one that came together really smoothly when Martin and I were writing it, and it's one that hits home in more ways than one (rip)! I ended up being so excited for the full version of this tune to be heard because I loved the transition from the first chorus into the second verse so much; I really felt that that change in groove and mood was going to hit people the way it did me. I love a song that lyrically kind of destroys you, but the groove of the instrumentation and melody make you wanna dance... so needless to say, we tried to do that with this one.

The RWBY soundtrack has always perfectly articulated what was going on in my life/inner world at the time that the songs came out, and this song is no exception. The songs always end up providing some sort of clarity for me. Although this song is overwhelming to listen to at times, I'm proud of you guys for making it. It must have taken extreme strength to be able to write and share this music.

I can't get over how much I love how dark it is. It's such a departure from "traditional" RWBY songs that it hits that much harder. Thank you so much for sharing this <3

The contrast between the upbeat backing and the absolutely hammering lyrics fit the scene so well, too, with everything that's going on... that is one of the things I love about the soundtrack, it so often perfectly illustrates the inner monologue of the characters!
