Version 2 Open Beta: 17th July 2021

Version 2 is finally going into open beta in just over a week's time!

This update will make version 2 (beta.dicecloud.com) accessible to everyone, for free, with some limitations. This update will also remove all restrictions from version 1 (dicecloud.com), making previously paid features of version 1 available to all users.

Changes to Patreon Tiers

The Wanderer, Dreamer, and Commoner tiers will all be treated alike going forward, bringing the minimum contribution to receive in-app benefits to $5. Things that were previously locked behind the $3 Wanderer tier will be free for everyone going forward.

Here is a brief summary of tier benefits after 17 July:

$0 - Commoner: 5 Active characters

$5 - Adventurer: 20 Active characters, paid benefits

Invited - Companion: 20 Active characters, paid benefits

$10 - Hero: 50 Active characters, paid benefits, 2 invites

$20 - Legend: 120 Active characters, paid benefits, 5 invites

$50 - Paragon: Infinite Active characters, paid benefits, 15 invites

Self-hosted - Outlander: Infinite Active characters, paid benefits

Invites

Invites allow you to sponsor another user's account, giving them the "Companion" tier.

Paid Benefits

New features, cosmetic upgrades, and advanced user tools will be locked behind the general term "paid benefits."

At open beta launch, paid benefits include the new dark mode and access to creating and editing libraries. Unlike version 1, all accounts will have access to viewing, subscribing to, and using libraries from their character sheet.

As Version 2 progresses and new features are released as paid benefits, old paid features may become free for all users.

Active vs Archived Characters

In DiceCloud Version 2, characters can be significantly more complicated than their v1 counterparts, and as a result, they have a much heavier impact on performance. As a result, every account will have a limit on how many active characters they can have. Characters that aren't in use can be archived and restored later, and there is currently no limit to how many archived characters an account may have.

Self Hosting

For those users with the expertise to host their own instance of DiceCloud, there will be improved support, starting with the DISABLE_PATREON environmental variable. Setting this variable to true in the hosting environment will disable all Patreon features in the app and make all users the Outlander tier, with full access to all features without needing to override each user's tier manually.
