November 15th Weekly Update

This week I got back on it after last week throwing me off a bit.

I'm still not happy with current events, but I'm not too worried about getting caught out depending on how things unfold.

I started working on another animation set, but this one I'm going to keep a secret. Its not that its a super exciting or unique set, but I feel like I always give everything away. I'd like you guys to get some surprises!

I also did a lot of work on tests for the slight adjustments to the casting that I had previously mentioned. I did some work making sure the adjusted system is something I can implement in both Unreal Engine 4.26 and Unreal Engine 5, and while I may release a test, I'll probably keep that small.

My goal for the test was to set up spells, so they had a basic attack when you press/tap the button, and then MORE spells of the same "element" when you held the button down, and did a more complicated input on the thumbstick/directional keys. (I mean stuff like half circles, circles, quickly jerking left to right, etc) I've got it working very reliably with both the keyboard and a gamepad. So all that's left to do is set up a small test with a few elements. I want to make sure each element has a standard attack that feels useful, and that the actual spells feel REALLY magical.

I managed to build out the class and the enhanced input tools, using what's available in 4.26.

 

and I found some more effects that were pretty cheap, but look fairly good. I'm looking forward to integrating these to some spells!

Okay so the second one is kinda puny, maybe that's the ice basic attack...

Either way, Hopefully I can get that test out this month as something a little different.
I'll use it as an opportunity to test a few other things in unreal engine 5 as well!
