Tip on the slugs, my grandma used to put pie tins in the garden buried just so the edge was level with the soil. She then filled with beer (whatever was cheapest) it drew slugs in and they drowned. Too dry for slugs/snails where I am, but I sure have to battle squash beetles and earwigs - YUCK!
