Major Liang chased Captain Fung to his fighter before he could bored.
“Hey asshole! Stop right there, we need to talk.” Liang barked.
“Who the fuck do you think you’re talking to?” Fung turned on Liang.
“Me? I’m a superior officer for one, but for another I’m the only guy who’s survived here the last three years. And I’m not letting you fuck it up.” Liang marched toward Fung.
“What the fuck do I care? Back it up.” Fung put a hand on Liang’s chest to slow him down.
“Do you know who you were talking to back there? I mean really know.” Liang swatted the other man’s hand away.
“Some delusional bitch telling crazy stories and you were just eating it up like a horny high school student.”
“No, that’s Major General Wu. Ever heard of her?”
“No.”
“Yea, that’s because she isn’t exactly a public figure. But she’s got more power than you could ever imagine. So yea, I eat up all her stupid stories and flirting.”
“So what? What are they going to do? Reassign me again?”
“No, this is your last stop. How’d you get here anyway?”
“Orders.” Fung turned to walk away.
“No, my guess is you’ve got a disciplinary record and a big cock like the rest of us. Am I right?” Liang grabbed his shoulder to keep him from leaving.
“Something like that.”
“You notice we’re the only men here? Ever seen a base where even the ground crew is women?”
“I hadn’t noticed. The guards were men.” Fung shrugged.
“Yea, just them. But they aren’t normal guards. Have you ever seen anyone in the army or Sky Force wearing white?”
“Well, no.”
“Yea, those aren’t fucking soldiers. Those are pilots. And the General is very fond of clean white so get used to wearing it.”
“Nah, too big to be pilots.” Fung laughed off his suggestion.
“So are we if you haven’t noticed.”
“So why does this matter to me? I just want to fly.”
“Here’s the lay of the land. This is Wu’s little empire. She picks her men, and we do what she says. Anything she says. Those guys had some issues. Who knows what? But they disappear for a while and they come back brainless robots for her. I have no idea what she does to them, but they aren’t one of us anymore.”
“Yea? And?”
“You’re not at a normal Ministry of Defense base pal. You’re a pirate now.”
“What the fuck are you talking about? I thought this was mostly convoy duty.” Fung started to sound less confident.
“Yea, sometimes. Most of the time, we force down neutral freighters. Wu’s ground crews ‘inspect’ them and take what they like. She gets a cut, the MoD gets the rest and no one is the wiser. That’s why we fly these prototypes with no markings.” Liang motioned to the aircraft.
“Okay, so we report her.”
“To whom? The MoD? You’re 9,000 feet up a mountainside right now buddy. Guys who talk about what goes on here have a really weird way of falling off the side of the runway.”
“So why do you care what I do? So I didn’t laugh at her dumb jokes. What’s she going to do?”
“You’ll see. This is her playland, and if you don’t play she’ll hurt you. Problem for me is, she has a really old-fashioned view of military discipline. If you fuck up, your buddy goes down with you. And right now, I’m the only other guy you know.”
“Act like a little puppy when she’s around. And get used to being a play thing for her and her women. And overall, don’t get some dumb idea to try and fly away. You deviate from your flight path and this thing will go on remote control and that will be your last ride.” Liang patted the side of the fighter with his glove.
“Whatever, I can handle her. Aren’t we supposed to be flying?” Fung dismissed Liang’s concerns and again walked away.
“Yea we are. They monitor our communications to, so don’t say anything you don’t want someone else to hear.” Liang climbed into the cockpit of his fighter, not confident Fung had listened to anything he said.
