The 10 Avatars of Vishnu - Hindu Mythology REACTION!!

Yep, its called a shwa deletion, basically phonetically it is /ræmə/ in sanskrit (would sound like ra+muh , ra as in 'ra'r and muh as in 'mur'der) which gets shortened to Ram in hindi and some south indian languages do not like ending in a consonant or a half-consonant. Adding a final vowel sound like "-um" or "un" makes the word easier to pronounce and fits the phonological structure avoiding consonant clustering. "namaskar/namaskara/namaskaram" or "ganesh/ganesha/ganeshan" for instance

The version you've heard of the 10 Avatars, with Buddha as the 9th, is indeed a very common and important interpretation. However, in many other traditions, particularly in South India and in several schools of Vaishnavism, Buddha is not included in the 10 Avatars. In those lists, Balarama (Krishna's brother) is included instead. What's fascinating about this particular sequence is that it seems to have an incredible parallel that is often missed: it symbolically maps the evolution of life, from the first simple creatures to the rise of complex human intelligence and civilization. Here is that list and its comparison: 1. Matsya (Fish) - Aquatic life - Origin of Life: Life begins in the water. 2. Kurma (Tortoise) - Amphibian (water and land) - Aquatic to Terrestrial: Life moves from water to land. 3. Varaha (Boar) - Terrestrial mammal - Land Animals: The emergence of fully land-dwelling mammals. 4. Narasimha (Man-Lion) - Half-man, half-animal - Transitional Form: The symbolic bridge between animal and human. 5. Vamana (Dwarf) - Early, underdeveloped human - Early Humans: The first "true" but primitive human forms. 6. Parashurama (Warrior) - Primitive, tribal man with a tool (axe) - Hunter-Gatherer Society: Development of tools and tribal structures. 7. Rama (King) - Civilized, "ideal" man - Rise of Civilization: Establishment of cities, laws, and kingdoms. 8. Balarama (Farmer) - Man with a plough - The Agricultural Revolution: The next great leap. Society moves from kingdoms to a stable, agrarian civilization based on farming. 9. Krishna (Statesman) - Man of complex intellect - Complex Society & Politics: With agriculture (Balarama) settled, Krishna represents the rise of complex diplomacy, statecraft, philosophy, and economics (he is a cowherd, signifying the pastoral economy). 10. Kalki (Future) Future Evolution: The end of the current cycle.
