My gay wrath is seething because I've put myself in the middle of another FAT fucking shot. This thing is 26 seconds long with 3 characters and ate the back half of last month... It is at least important to the film and looks cool, but next time around I will be storyboarding so much cheaper. The crazy part is that I have economical storyboard tricks drilled really hard into my head from past gigs, but I guess I wouldn't know how long those would take to fully produce as a board artists. Also it's been fuckin 7 YEARS since my last fully-color film (Kill Wolfy), so to call myself rusty at this shit would be a massive understatement.
Anywho, the goal is still to be done with the Punk Ass pilot next month if I can, so this month I'm gonna start trying to find work for the Fall, if such a thing still exists here. LA animation work is still barren as fuck, most of my friends are unemployed, and the like 20% of them who still get hired all have like 4 jobs at each of their 3 gigs they were terrified to say no to. It is rough out here. Frankly I'm not holding my breath after 3 years out of TV storyboards, so I am planning to come out swinging with another Kickstarter by like September or else I'm pretty fucked money-wise. I will probably open commissions when the film's done. I'm already balls deep in the trailer song for a second episode of Punk Ass, and I've had episodes storyboarded since before I even dropped the Pilot crowdfund so frankly the only issue is time to make a decent proof of concept (trailer, preview material). This has truly been a learning experience, I feel like I could write a book on all the inefficient shit I will never do again as an indie animator lmao.
I've been going back and forth over what I want to do next, which is why I've been posting polls about it. The two smartest options seem like either making another fully animated episode of Punk Ass or fully animating Dumpster Fire with the skills I've learned making this pilot. Let Punk Ass cook a little longer, develop my toolkit. I fear that making proof of concept (a trailer and such) for another Punk Ass toon will be too time consuming for how much Kickstarter cash I still have left, it would have action and more characters after all. Dumpster Fire would be way the hell easier to make proof of concept as it is purposely storyboarded for quick, inexpensive sitcom-style production. I made it to attract TV storyboard work, so I DO know how lol. I was happy to find out that people would be interested in that too. Both options would likely take 10 months, I don't know what I was smoking when I thought this pilot would take me 6.
We'll see what happens, either way ya'll are gonna have something new to watch fairly soon <3
