December Q&A Vid!

December Q&A Vid!

Comments

Yup about the book! It's a comic summarizing history, dates and people involved with the panthers by David F. Walker & Marcus Kwame Anderson if you're interested. All true and all of the above when it comes to the theming of my stuff! I just like to start from "fun to make" first and then add my thoughts and experiences into the thing as I go. You definitely don't need to have everything planned out upfront -- it's easy to forget to make something fun and entertaining when you're confining yourself to personal wiki of concepts to establish. Glad hearing about my sloppy methods made this stuff less intimidating, that's what I'm secretly always hoping when I talk about my process lol perfectionism is the enemy and just stops art from getting made

(This may be a long patreon comment lol hope it’s not a problem) I’m really glad to have found time in my day to listen to this awesome Q&A video, especially from one of my favorite creators. First things first, I really like the book covers in the background on your bookshelves, is the one book at the bottom about the Black Panther Party history? I ask cause I’m very curious of reading books about them, heck, I have a book in this years bucket list, that I wanna read, written by Huey P. Newton. Also, in one of the questions you answered in the video, the one about “What kind of themes are you trying to get across with your animations” One thing that I always thought about your themes, for me at least, was that you were and wanted to try and show as much radical and thought provoking left-wing views, socials, and symbols in the animations as possible, not in a sense of obvious “Look at this in front of your face and feel confused or serious about it” stuff, but more of openly (and radically) showing to people honest/real left leaning truths and existing views about society, individuals and the various life/political worlds. By also adding furries, video games, artist/writer creativity worlds, and pop culture references and styles in them too. Another theme that I feel I could see in your animations and work was your very own and even best attempt to show the reality of people, not just you and or others, but even much of the whole world and communities you’ve seen and been a part of. In a weird sense of showing people’s true colors without everything being so white, gray, and black compared to what much of the media and major companies try to show and tell. The last theme (probably more of a bit of a hidden theme) that also came to my mind was also including the world of black people, the black community, and black politics/history, not only to show the existence of their world to people who aren’t black, but to also affirm that the people, of that world, have gone through a lot and still go through a lot on a day to day basis. It honestly is very funny and very creative that what you did was basically add stuff and change stuff in your works gradually, like what you said “just putting stuff there and seeing what people say about it”. It really surprised me when you said it, cause I always thought there had to be a very well and thought out plan for this work to work well. But now, hearing you say that, it brings me hope and makes me realize that I don’t have to have mountains of worry and sweat coming from my forehead, just because my mind isn’t able to plan an amazing and heavily detailed story and or deep and meaningful characters immediately. I just have to take my time and let the stories come to my head gradually and with less stress. Heck this probably will help me a lot as a Film maker. Tbh I could go on and on about the stuff that you made me think of when you made the Q&A video, but then it would just turn into a giant thought comment mess, and my fingers need to take a break from typing so much lol, but yea, love your work Jaz, can’t wait to see more of your amazing work. <3

finally got to this, and thank you so much for the honest answer; being a perfectionist always gets me freezing up or burning out quickly when working on projects. I like that you cover on it way more than what i usually hear and that honestly it's okay to get bored with your projects just as long i still have the momentum. thanks man!
