[TS3] Attraction proof of concept

What would your ideal Sims attraction system work/look like? I've been doing some UI/graphic/scripting work on and off for attraction in TS3 and this is a concept I've come up with

[TS3] Attraction proof of concept

Comments

OMG, I need this. Can you edit the like and dislike for this. Like there are sims they are more attracted too and other they are less attracted too. OMG, this need to be top priority lol

Geoffroy Mpuati

I got caught up with a lot of other things, IRL and otherwise, and the mod needs a major rewrite. Not sure when I'll have the time to work on something big like this again :,)

Lazy Duchess

How is this project going? this concept seemed promising!

boredewil

Not yet! I've still got to pick the project back up.

Lazy Duchess

Wow, this looks amazing, do you have any progress update on it?

F.A

I LOVE THIS MOD!!! I NEED THIS OMG OMG!! its been 9 months!!! When you release it??

Miva

I can*t wait till the mod drops >-< love it! But I have a question how does it work than for sims born into the game? When they turn to teenagers do they chose it than randomly? Or are we picking the attractions? Love your mods!

Antizey

Loveeeeee

Alex Richmond

I have been waiting for something like this! :D

This kind of reminds me of the "Turn ons/Turn offs" system from "The Sims 2", which I whish they would've brought back for "The Sims 3", or is THAT the idea?

William Hendrey

Really cool concept what I'd really like to see in the game! Thanks to your tweaks Sims 3 is been working much better and is so much more enjoyable to play, so looking forward to it :)

Kriiks

looks awesome! a feature like this would be so cool in game

Not to sound overly dramatic but my heart stopped for a second when I saw the preview image haha. This sounds fantastic, you have such brilliant ideas. It was only yesterday that I was thinking to myself that one of the biggest let downs in TS3 isn't just that it's "too easy" to establish a quick romantic connection between Sims, but that there is no nuance or challenge because anybody can be attracted to anybody and there's not a lot you can do to change that. Even with the retuned attraction mods out there, as great as they are, all they do is adjust the values a bit so that it's harder to be attractive, but everybody is still attracted to the same things and those things are limited.. nice breath, manicured nails, etc. The chemistry system in TS2 meant your Sims had to actually seek out somebody who was their perfect match, balancing turn-ons and turn-offs, personality, interests and aspiration. It also meant that on a neighbourhood level you could decide to make some traits commonly desirable and some traits commonly undesirable. Like you could pretty much craft your world so that your Sim with crazy colourful hair and piercings might struggle to find love in their conservative neighbourhood, but might have better luck downtown. If most of the teen girls in your part of town are interested in entertainment and fashion and are turned on by rich Sims and turned-off by Sims in glasses, then your sci-fi loving glasses-wearing nerd teen will have a harder time scoring a date than the ones who tick those boxes, and it will be more of a challenge to find Mrs Sci-Fi Nerd. Without that system in TS3, though, it's almost impossible to create that kind of scenario. There's nothing to stop odd or unlikely pairings. It would be amazing to see how this project develops over time. I wonder if you can confirm at this stage if Sims will be "turned off" by those who are in direct contradiction of their preferences to be unappealing? For instance, if a Sim has a preference for fitness, does that mean they will also be specifically turned off by fat Sims? And do you think there is potential to link this attraction system up with the online dating profiles that came with Seasons?

Amy Murphy

Ah, sweet :)

Hi! Yeah I'd love to have it play a big part in autonomy too, though it does mean potentially having to modify or replace tons of interactions, but I don't mind it too much as this is a long term project anyways. I believe Lyralei is working on a Hobbies and Interests system for TS3.

Lazy Duchess

There is an option for ace, the little "-", "?" being autonomous. I've since changed the icon.

Lazy Duchess

Hi! Thank you! I might look into it, but I'm not too sure.

Lazy Duchess

Yup, it doesn't need to be filled completely and randomizing does often leave a few slots empty.

Lazy Duchess

It does apply to premades and generated Sims - randomness for turn ons is weighted, which means that boring turn ons like specific outfits are a lot less likely to show up, and they also depend on gender preference, so breast size/body hair turn ons won't show up for sims that aren't attracted to the appropriate gender. If Sims already have vanilla autonomous gender prefs or are dating their gender preference on the attraction panel will be set accordingly.

Lazy Duchess

Standalone - I've been making a pretty big effort to try and keep it non-core!

Lazy Duchess

Would this be standalone or would it have to be integrated into a core mod?

Charles Hayward

Very neat! Love to see this

Mister Montgomeroo

The only issue I'd have with this is whether it applies retroactively to pre-made Sims and randomly generated ones and if so how their personalities are defined. :o

Looks killer as always, you keep on spoiling us LD ;) My current favorite attraction system is the one made by Lizcandor in Harder Romance mod, so if anything could be done in the direction of implementing these features or making them compatible, it'd be great. From a UI perspective, it'd mean potentially integrating stuff like which trait(s) / skill(s) / zodiac sign(s) / celebrity status and celebrity level / household funds / age (in sim days) the attractive sim has. Could also see stuff like eye color (I think you already have hair color up in here?). Food for thoughts.

NadineNB

This looks so good already!

Kevin

My goodness, that would be AWESOME! My only wish on that would be that we don't have to fill everything, like, some Sims can have no physical preference at all, for example, or we can fill this little by little, from Sims experiences.

Around the Sims

This is looking good already even as a proof of concept! Always loved the attraction system in sims 2 and it being in sims 3 would be a dream come true, next to fears returning. Great work as always! :D

Anime_Boom

I don't have much to add, but I wanted to say this already looks amazing!! Would it be possible to integrate this into the wishes system?

bz

For the active family biggest thing I want from an attraction system is affecting what wants sims get--i.e. only date/kiss/woohoo/etc sims they're attracted to. For non-playable sims, I agree with the previous commenter: they should autonomously try to romance sims they're attracted to, and reject romance from sims they're not attracted to. Looking at your interface, it would be good if the probability of orientations for non-player-created sims was tunable, if you picked for active sims who age to teens, and if the gender attraction included an option for ace sims.

lytefoot

damn! Amazing! I would love to see this accompanied by a Hobbies system in The Sims 3, to make our sims even more responsive and reactive, like in The Sims 2. My ideal attraction system would focus especially on autonomous behaviors and reactions. I think I can speak for the majority, that The Sims 4 "traumatized" us with an interface for everything and functionality for nothing xD In this case, the idea I have of an attraction system is enhanced autonomy, specific artificial intelligence, and coherent behaviors. We could even go a little further and push our sims against their barriers, meaning if he doesn't like a certain style or thing, he could just refuse to do any related interactions. Same as ts1 sims when they are annoyed. Adding to that persistent stubbornness the sims had on ts1 and 2 might be a good idea. I don't know if that's an adequate answer, because I've been a builder for the last few years, but that would just as easily get me too excited to play!
