Not every genocide has a Mon Mothma to advocate for it. Not every genocide is politically fashionable to talk about. In my lifetime alone there have been genocides against Ukrainians in Ukraine, Palestinians in Israel, Bosniaks in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Armenians in Azerbaijan, Yazidis in Iraq, Indigenous Mayans in Guatemala, Uyghurs in China, Tamils in Sri Lanka, the Rohingya in Myanmar, the Bambuti and Hutu in the Congo, the Darfuri in Sudan, and the Tutsis in Rwanda, to name a few. I’m a day late now but Milena I think it’s healthy to be skeptical going into Rogue One. Andor is a first (and hopefully not a last) for Star Wars, and the movie is part of the Hollywood Blockbuster spectacle with a very different tone, even if it is technically the final arc of Andor.

Always love to point out... the ISB agent is repeatedly referred to as "Jung's Agent". Meaning Lonni was the one who put her on the task (and presumably didn't choose his best, based on her questionable effort). And thus Lonni was explicitly Luthen's source that Bail's team was compromised.
Just like it was Lonni who told Luthen exactly what the plans were for Gorst and where he'd be. One of many pieces of vital info he funneled to Luthen.
Lonni is truly one of the most important unsung heroes of the Rebellion. People like Lonni did the dirty and nasty work so the Lukes and the Han Solos could get the medals and recognition.

The two speeches Mon Mothma gives in Star Wars Rebels. The first has been changed to what she says in Andor. The second is referenced in this episode, which she gives while being transported to Yavin (the Rebel base).
"I name the Emperor himself for ordering the brutal attacks on the people of Ghorman. Their peaceful world is one of countless systems helpless against his oppressive rule. This massacre is proof that our self-appointed Emperor is little more than a lying executioner, imposing his tyranny under the pretense of security. We cannot allow this evil to stand."
"This is Senator Mon Mothma. I have been called a traitor for speaking out against a corrupt Galactic Senate. A Senate manipulated by the sinister tactics of the Emperor. For too long I have watched the heavy hand of the Empire strangle our liberties, stifling our freedoms in the name of ensuring our safety. No longer! Despite Imperial threats, despite the Emperor himself, I have no fear as I take new action. For I am not alone. Beginning today we stand together as allies. I hereby resign from the Senate to fight for you, not from the distant hall of politics but from the front lines. We will not rest until we bring an end to the Empire, until we restore our Republic! Are you with me?"

I love the detail of the score used when Cassian is driving Mon away after her speech. It’s the same song they used for the end of season 1, episode 3. In that episode the song is played over Cassian watching Luthen drive him away from Ferrix while he thinks back to Maarva driving the ship away from Kenari. Both of those scenes show Cass watching on as an authority / leadership figure helps him on the way to a new stage of his life and that’s exactly what’s happening to Mon in that moment. She leans back in the seat and watches as this stranger saves her. Her life as a senator is done in that moment. She knows she may never see her daughter again. She’s going into the unknown but we as the viewer know this is where they are destined to go. Beautiful storytelling and beautiful callback through a simple choice to reuse a score

Lots to love in this episode. Like others mentioned the potential turning of Mon Mothma's driver Kloris is a perfect little moment and a big "what if" on whether he could have been turned or not. I also really like Bail Organa scene in the Senate, using the Senate rules and the speeches of other senators to navigate a way through and around the bureaucracy that authoritarians love to use in silencing dissent. And the MUSIC leading up to Mon's speech is so tense and fitting!

Even a gun has an arc. That's the gun that Andor took from the corporate police d-bags on Morlana One. He had it with him on Aldhani. Our boy Richie asked him who he got a corporate issue gun from. "I didn't get a name" Cass says, in a line that exudes pure badassery. The gun was seen stuffed in the box along with Nemik's manifesto hidden in the hotel. When Cass and Melshi escape Narkina 5, they go back and Cass gives him the gun. Vel, intruged by a gun she's familiar with, asks who belongs to it. Our boy Melshi appears.

I understand where you're coming from and if Andor preceded Rogue One, i would agree with you that the decision was terrible. However the ending of this episodes makes sense exactly because Andor was released after Rogue one. Ending after Bix's speech would be devastating and the creator probably wanted to end this episode on a high note and on a hopeful note. So it makes sense after Andor loses the love of his life, to end the episode when you introduce his future best friend.

Like you had a perfect ending to probably the best streak of Star Wars ever with Bix and then you throw a scene that feels way more in keeping with more typical Disney franchise stuff in right at the last second. Vel recognizes the weapon on the table on Yavin because Cassian had it with him on Aldhani. It was the weapon which Cassian took off one of the two Morlana Corporate cops who were shaking him down, way back in the first episode of the series. The man who raises his hand and claims the weapon is Melshi. He was in prison with Cassian on Narkina 5, and was the man who escaped with Cassian to the resort planet of Niamos. Cassian gave him the weapon as they parted ways. Cass had just learned about Maarva's death, and Melshi said they needed to split up to increase their chances of getting the word out about what was happening in the Imperial Prison System. I'm not surprised you didn't recognize him. It's not like he had a huge role in Season 1, and he looks quite a bit different here. In Season 1 his hair was longer and he had no facial hair.
Bix...you could have just told Cassian you were staying on Yavin, and that if he wanted to be with you then he needed to be with you on Yavin. You didn't have to leave. Cassian wouldn't have run off without you.
The looks on Mon's face both times that she witnesses Cassian kill were priceless. Her idealism was shattered just a little bit. Now she has to stare the necessity of killing for the Rebellion square in the face, instead of it being something abstract. Cassian saying "Welcome to the Rebellion" is a perfect response to Mon saying "I'm not sure I can do this" after she witnessed violent death for the first time (at least I assume it was the first time). You just know that Cassian has questioned whether or not he could keep going many times before this episode.

I’ll have to wait a couple days to watch this 😭
I love shows with episodes where characters of two different worlds whom we are heavily emotionally invested in meet each other.
I thought the script for this episode has some nice details regarding Cassian. Pardon the formatting from the copy/paste, I’ll paste the link to the script below if it’s more legible.
INT. LUTHEN’S GALLERY BACKROOM -- CORUSCANT -- NIGHT (4AM)
AN ANCIENT CUDGEL. Dirty and tarnished. Waiting to be cleaned for display. HANDS reaching down to pick it up -- It’s CASSIAN holding THE CUDGEL. Hidden inside...
Twisting the clasp.
A shining, immaculate BESKAR BLADE.
CASSIAN staring at it. The most intimate weapon possible.
One purpose only. It’s just hours since he fled Ghorman.
He’s washed his hands and ditched the massacre-soured coat, but there’s no quick fix for what’s roiling inside him.
No masking the weariness in his eyes.
Ghorman fucked him up.
KLEYA
They’re calling an early session at
the Senate. If she speaks, we need to be ready.
THERE SHE IS AT THE WORKBENCH -- a “
HOLO-PRINTER, bootlegging Senate credentials for him. They’re alone.
KLEYA (CONT’D)
So we’re keeping you a journalist.
It’s perfect. Ronni Googe. Mid-
Rim Network. You’re coming straight
from the Ghorman massacre to cover
the political fallout.”
He puts back THE CUDGEL.
KLEYA (CONT’D)
There’s a Senate catering entrance
we like. These credentials will
work inside, but they scan for
weapons at the entrance.
(she carefully places a
fresh credential on a
cooling tray--) You’ll want to hang onto this one,
it’s a Surface Pass, it’s good all season.
CASSIAN
I won’t be needing it. (she turns)
I’m not coming back. I’m done after this.

I really enjoy just how in depth you go into each episode. Your analysis is always so thoughtful and so spot on. Even though I’ve seen Andor several times now you always find a way to bring in fresh insights that I didn’t quite pick up on. I’ve been a Star Wars fan my whole life, and the Ghorman massacre and Mon Mothma’s speech denouncing the Emperor is something that has been referenced in Star Wars media for decades now. I never thought I’d see it in live action at all, let alone done so incredibly well. Tony Gilroy is the best and worst thing that has ever happened to Star Wars. He made Andor such a brilliant show but it does make the rest of Star Wars pale a bit in comparison. I do think you’ll like Rogue One when you see it. It was originally written and directed by a different director named Gareth Edwards, and then Disney wasn’t happy with the finished product so they brought in Tony Gilroy to rework it. I also think you’ll like the original trilogy well enough because you know how much people like Luthen and Mon Mothma sacrificed to get the rebellion to where it ends up.

Tony Gilroy was asked repeatedly about the lack of nominations during this most recent "awards season" and mostly refused to comment much, but eventually revealed that he doesn't care about his own recognition or that of well-established names like Skarsgaard or Diego Luna, but for all the lesser-known actors that could have benefitted from the publicity of a nomination. I and most others seem to believe he was almost certainly referring in particular to the women such as O'Reilly, Gough (Dedra), Dulau (Kleya) and Arjona (Bix).

Lastly, (again sorry for spamming the comments) I really like the K2SO scene. Its rewiring for me indicates that while the empire wants to make everything a blant deadly instrument for change the Rebellion has the ability to stand for individual expression charcter, laughter even. They were not sure it would work but it did! After Andor's heartbreak I really think it was important for him to see that the rebellion stands for building a better more compassionate world. And he is a part of that process
Ps The guy is Melshi, the man Cassian escaped with from prison and the weapon was the one he took from the Corporate security Syrill was working
PS2 Jesus I didn't know Vucic was such a monster, he seems like he would unleash Karadžić and Mladić again.

Regarding Mon’s speech, it was amazing, no notes, and really a speech I would like for any politician to make in our world. What makes Mon’s speech on the Senate floor so special for me is its simplicity. She fights the monsters and the monstrosities they have committed by simply naming them as such. No hesitations, no nuances, no room for doubt. And I think that more than anything irks the other collaborationist senators the most, the idea that someone can have a backbone and still believe in things. That’s what career politicians fear the most in our real world.

Another incredible episode, you could feel the tension but also the katharsis of emotion in Mon’s incredible speech.
I love the opening shot, incredible in its beauty and symbolism. The Senate building’s reflection in the water being shuttered by the rain as the liberal delusion that institutions in themselves can do anything to curtail fascism and barbarism. Really neat.
I think that Andor’s desire to leave all this behind is unlike last season not motivated just by self-preservation but also by his emotional exhaustion first and foremost. Unlike Kleya and Luthen most people can’t bear moving forward by hate and anger alone. That takes a toll so it’s understandable that he wants to retreat to life with Bix.
On Kleya and Luthen, this episode continues what we have seen in the previous episodes of their underhanded tactics, necessary as they may be in some cases can’t build a movement alone. It is ironic that in the same way Luthen saves Mothma from arrest is also why Mon and other leaders of the rebellion are so distrusting of him.

Ive been giving shoutouts to the women of Andor throughout your reaction, and its time to give Genevieve O'Reilly her flowers. Let this sink in…she received ZERO Emmy nominations for playing Mon throughout this series and that is a CRIME 😭
Fun fact for you girls, Genevieve was originally cast to play Mon all the way back in 2005 for the last prequel film, however all her scenes ended up getting cut. When fans saw the deleted scenes she received A TON of praise, so much so that when Disney took over and started making content during this era, they brought her back to play the role. She has not only played Mon for this show, but also voiced her in animated series as well. Will forever be grateful for her portrayal of Mon. That senate speech goes down as one of the best scenes of this show, and thats saying something. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Random stuff, in no particular order:
- I really want to know what 'tragic broth' tastes like. It sounds delicious.
- A running joke in the fandom after this episode aired: 'Mon Mothma is so great. I wish liberal politicians who resist fascism and genocide were real.'
- Love the malicious compliance from the technicians who hold off on fixing that security door they were supposed to fix until this exact day, then conveniently put the security code for the door in some office on the other side of the building. Mon has friends everywhere.
- Love how they quickly indicate how Luthen knows that Bail Organa's extraction team has been compromised: Beska, the ISB agent who has infiltrated that team, is explictly identified as one of Lonni Jung's agents. A running fan theory is that Lonni intentionally assigned the most incompetent agent he had to increase Mon's chances of escape, which helps explains why said agent so completely bungles her assignment.
However ruthless it was, Luthen's decision to let Kreegyr and his men die to save Lonni as his ISB mole was pretty clearly the right one. Lonni Jung continues to be the Rebel Alliance's MVP.
- The man who showed up at the Rebel base on Yavin, and who was carrying a blaster Vel thought looked very familiar, was Melshi, the man who Cassian escaped Narkina V with. Vel noticed the blaster because it just happened to be the same blaster Cassian used during the Aldhani raid, and which he took from Syril on Ferrix in Season 1 Episode 3, and finally left with Melshi when they split up on Niamos to make sure the galaxy learned of what was happening at places like Narkina V. Beautiful how it all ties together.
