Whatever inscrutable wiles motivate each individual genie can be difficult to interpret, as they are known for playing games with mortals they encounter, often brokering odd deals or wagers that can lead to insurmountable riches, or even greater peril. Some whisper that even the God-Kings themselves fear the power of the genies, and may be responsible for sealing them away in unsuspecting oil lamps and other such trinkets lost in tombs and dungeons throughout the land.
