As you may have heard, Twitter disabled the endpoint Nitter was using, breaking the application. Its maintainer, Zedeus, subsequently declaired the project dead. It's a bit unfortunate, as we were using nitter instances to fetch the list of new tweets for an account.

So it's a bit of a setback for us, but I have a new design that seems to work so far: using real twitter accounts via twscrape. There is a new server component to bird.makeup: a python sidecar.

I have it setup right now with my old twitter account I am not using anymore, but there is a rate limit I must stay under with it. I am priorizing the most followed Twitter accounts, but I'm going to need more accounts to get a good coverage.

So I have a weird request to make to the community: can you give twitter accounts to me to add to bird.makeup backend? You can DM here on Patreon or on the fediverse the username and password of accounts you are not using anymore. I promise to not post anything, but those accounts might get banned eventually anyway.

New signups works also! There is long captcha to solve for each, so each one donated is a huge time save for me. I have a theory that new signups are more likely to get banned that old accounts, but they might not.

I suspect this might be the endgame for bird.makeup, as there is not much left that can be blocked anymore, but we will see! One thing that this project has thaught me is that I must never underestimate Elon's capacity to self-harm.

Edit: Thanks to all of you who sent accounts! ❤️ After testing all the accounts you sent me, I noticed that acounts created with an email trigger a 2-factor authentification often, but accounts created with a phone number get asked to only provide the phone number on login, since Elon is too cheap to pay to send SMS. So by far the most useful type of accounts you can send me is an account created without email, just a phone number, and to send me the username, password and phone number.
