Manic Analysis- "I Hate Everybody"

I blind react and discuss tone, imagery, diction and more in this lyrically and emotionally complex song.

Don't apologize! I am so glad you are enjoying my videos! The "scaly" part is probably my favorite part of the song! As someone who struggles with executive dysfunction, I really like your interpretation!

I’m so sorry for the spam comments, I’m having way too much fun with these videos! I always felt like the scaly thing was her actions when she’s aware that the behaviors were the result of deeper issues they need to handle but feeling completely unable to do so. Kind of like executive dysfunction

Mary Kate Doyle

This is so interesting! I think you're onto something!

English Teacher KP

I don't know if anyone else picked up on this but in the first part the speaker says " feeling something like a scaley thing wrapped too tightly around my own master" then later they say " I don't know why it's consuming me"as if the perspective of being the scaley thing has shifted and now they're being suffocated? is the speaker both a scaley thing and the master of their own device perhaps?

Moriah

I can totally see this!

English Teacher KP

In the first verse when Halsey says "wrapped too tightly around my own master" I've always interpreted Master as their brain! Because your brain does control everything you do, and so then they're saying their experience of bipolar disorder is like a snake constricting their brain! Of course the next question is what would THAT mean for Halsey's experience of the world :))

This is SUCH a relatable song! I love it!

English Teacher KP

Oh I love this! "Cause" works so well and makes me love the line even more! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!

English Teacher KP

This makes total sense! I feel the same way!

English Teacher KP

Thanks everyone for letting me know about the wrong lyric! I appreciate you guys! "Cause" instead of "cost" makes me love that line even more!

English Teacher KP

I CANNOT wait for you to react to 3AM it pairs so well with this song! The lyric video did get one line wrong, it's actually "Infatuation's observation with a cause" not cost. But when I heard that line, it changed how I view liking people. It's fairly similar, saying liking that person or having them give you full purpose or motivation, instead of having that on your own isn't great. Too relatable of a song <3

Camila Dejesus

The lyric is actually “infatuation’s observation with a cause” and omg you should’ve seen me freaking out the whole video 😂I was singing those words so loud with a big grin at how these lyrics would hit you. I had chills. I love how cinematic this sounds. Halsey actually worked with Benny blanco (when she works with artists they help with production, never with lyrics) and Benny heard that line and said “Ashley, you can’t say that!” And she’s like yep totally saying it lol. I think you’ll really enjoy the sound of the next one since you typically like more poppy sounds like me! But gah, this album is incredible and it goes places !

This is my favorite song lyrically on the album as well. I also have OCD and relate to the lyrics in the middle the most. I think this song indirectly speaks about an inability to “live in the moment” as well. I tend to focus on all the details of everything and then they get filed into how they affect the future or memories of the past. It’s hard to just let them “be” in the moment. Not sure if that makes any sense at all!
