HFK Analysis- "Eyes Closed"

I discuss how Halsey uses diction, symbolism and an array of literary devices to establish a central tone in their song, "Eyes Closed".

This is a really good point that I hadn't picked up on until you pointed it out! You are so right, though! The juxtaposition creates a conflict of emotions here, and I love it!

Exactly! That part is a little too relatable 😭😭😭

That is super cool! I love that they are so involved with writing their own lyrics!

Yeah this song is so relatable. Like when you try to move on too fast from someone you loved so much but it was a toxic relationship, so you know that you should move on but when you try you just think about your ex. And partially could be doing it to get back at them and make them jealous perhaps.

So Halsey has always said she only sings all her own lyrics. Anytime she works with another artist or cowrites with someone, she’s the only one writing her lyrics. With that said, The Weeknd co-wrote this with Halsey! He wrote the music part and Halsey of course wrote the lyrics. Thought that was cool.

I like the conflict of being β€œface to face with someone new”, yet keeping your eyes closed to the whole thing. I feel like it’s a juxtaposition of closeness and being removed from the situation.

I love how throughout the album you almost go backwords in time through the relationship. Learning more as you progress. I feel like in 100 Letters she's fully over it, just giving an overview. But then here with the "Tell me how to move on" she's still attached. It's so fun and you learn a little bit about the relationship with each piece
