Behind The Scenes: Dunfeld Town

Hi everyone!

Here’s a behind the scenes look at how last week's Dunfeld Town scene came to life—watch it grow from a simple sketch into a vibrant village.

As always, I start with a basic 3D model first to match the map:

And then, I start collecting reference photos:

Look familiar?

Using the 3D render to set up perspective, I then work on basic lighting, and colours.

Details on environment come into play with the fence and pathway

Beginning details on village, stone bridge, and fortified gates

Moving up the hill to finalize the forest

Finishing off painting the keep and surrounding area

Finishing off the mountains in the background!

Finishing touches with lighting, flying birds, and flowers on the path.

Yeah, its just for composition. Because I use the map as reference for the layout of the scene. I then paint from scratch over the top of it all.

Is the 3d model just for composition or is all the digital painting actually done on the 3d model?
