Chapter 168: Light vs Dark

It is not everyday that you walk into the Wizengamot to witness a screaming match. The divide that ran through the high court was evident as everyone stood split up into three distinct groups; the Light, the Dark, and the Grey.

It was like it was an animal house in here as shouts and insults were traded, and he feared that at any moment now spells would start being fired about. There was none of that usual courtesy found, or any order about the place as every wizard and witch seem to want to get their voices out.

Harry had no words to express himself just like his godfather who stood gaping along with him.

“Harry come here,” someone shouted at him. Turning around the young lordling saw that it was Amelia Bones calling out to him in the stand that the Light members were gathered. Sirius on the other hand was being dragged off by some Grey faction member which he just recently joined.

“What's going on?” Harry asked as he came up the stand to be right next to Lady Bones. Deep down, Harry already knew what was really happening, but he just didn’t expect this.

“The Dark faction decided to declare war on us!” Amelia Bones simply answered. “Lot of people are worried, this is looking a lot like the past Wizarding Wars that just happened. Insults are being thrown around, and no one is willing to back down.”

Harry could see that tempers were boiling over and he could also see a hint of fear on faces.

Sweating like a hog and in the middle of it all was the Minister for Magic, Cornelius Fudge who kept on wiping at his brow. He was trying to calm things down, but no one was listening to him at all. He was just a weak man that got into power in unstable times when people just wanted a man who wouldn’t do something too wild. The only reason why he ever stayed in power for so long was that he curtsey to everyone and that just worked out.

No one had no respect for him at all, so no one was giving him any while he tried helplessly to soothe things over. He was a smart man, and knew that his job would be done for if war broke out between the two leading parties of the country.

“My Lords and Ladies please calm down and let cooler heads prevail!” the man all but needed to shout. “We can not have civil war among us. This great country will be fractured and disunified. We need to keep the peace, isn’t that our job.”

There were plenty of nods from the Grey faction members, they might not be the one who were going to war, but still they didn’t want fighting to break out in the streets between countrymen. And who knows as well, they might be dragged into this as well as it is common for the Grey to have connections between members of the other faction.

“It's too late for that, Cornelius,” Madam Longbottom spoke up with a snort. “We haven’t made the declaration of war, the Dark faction did. And if you think you can stomp all over us, then you have something else coming for you.”

“We are not the ones that broke the balance, it was you!” Lord Corban Yaxley simply stated. “A great house of antiquity and powerful bloodline had been extinguished without mercy. Is that the fate that awaits all of us

“What did you think was going to happen? It was war!” Lord Ahmed Shafiq raised a single eyebrow in consternation.

“Ha, they are all just angry that for once, they are on equal footing with the rest of us for once. We both stand at 8 to 8 Great Houses in both of our factions, and you just don’t like that.” Lord Harold, head of clan Macmillan guffawed out loud.

“As if,” Lord Rory Rosier shouted, “we could crush you under our heels at any moment if we so choose.”

“It is clear to me,” Lord Amos Diggory intoned in answer as he puffed himself up, “that you are just speaking air. What can you even do without your Dark Lord backing you up, huh!?”

“There isn’t any proof that we had nothing to do with, he who shouldn’t be named,” Lord Perseus Parkinson calmly denied anything. “That has been proven more than a decade ago when many Lords and Ladies have been tried.”

“You might have bribed and cheated your way to get your name clear, but that doesn’t mean you are clear in our books. We all know the things you have done during the war, and justice will catch up to you very soon,” Lord Kingsley Shacklebolt folded his arms across his chest.

“Please,” Cornelius said weakly, “take a deep breath and calm down. Everyone, come on!” but he was continued to be ignored.

“Hey are you guys still angry about what I said to you last time,” Harry cheekly grinned at the Dark wizards and witches. “You know I didn’t mean that… okay I meant everything I said, but you are big boys and girls. You should take to heart what a youngling like me says, that would just make you petty and immature!”

“You little brat,” Lord Rory Rosier bit out, “you are on the top of your list to go down. If you think that you can get away with ru-....”

“Hey, I am starting to feel unsafe here,” Harry put on a sacred expression. “You have been gunning for me right from the beginning. I know you are a bisexual, hedonistic amoral pervert but I do not swing that way!”

“Why you,” the man shouted red face. He clearly wasn’t angry about his preferences and degeneracy as it was well known. But being called out by what he saw as only a new upstart that should only be twiddling with his thumbs, and not getting himself included in conversation of his betters.

“Stop putting false pretence, Lord Potter,” Lady Amaryllis Mort snorted. “From what I have been hearing lately, you are not better than him.”

“Now what ever would you mean?” Harry asked with a raised eyebrow.

“Please, how many Hogwarts have you seduced?” the gorgeous as she stared at him from her lidded eyelashes.

Harry guessed that it would get out once he took more than half a dozen to the Yule Ball that he was some sort of womanizer that chases skirts.

“Well,” Harry said, “you sure as hell didn’t help matters when you gave me your daughter. Anyway, where is she?” he asked as he put on a wicked smile. If she wanted to see him as only that, well let them. “I sure do want to meet here and get to know her more intimately.”

Suddenly a hand reached out and grabbed his ear, “Aww, aww, aww,” Harry said as he looked up at Amelia Bones.

“Enough of that,” she said as she stared hard eyed at him. Then turning to the dark wizards and witches, she intoned. “Since you have made yourselves clear, we shall see each other on the field of battle.”

“We wonder who would lose,” Lady Alecto Carrow smiled.

“I think we know the answer to that,” Lord Amycus Carrow chuckled.

“Yes, we do,” Lord Ahmed Shafiq nodded his head.

“Then it's settled,” the young new lordling spoke up, he was head of House Crouch now, Lord Jon or Johnson.. or was it Jonathan.

“If you truly wish to go through with this, can you limit it?” Lord Cyrus Greengrass at long last got up. “If you do not include your vassals and your members of your faction, then the damage of this fight could be limited somewhat.”

“Yes, yes,” Cornelius Fudge was nodding his head happily. This was clearly the best he could expect.

“Ha,” Lord Hunter Flint laughed madly. “You just want us to weaken each other and then swallow us all up.”

“Yes, we all know how the grey factions are made up of a bunch of cowards and backstabbers,” Lady Amaryllis Mort sniffed daintily.

“Just because we are wise enough to stay out of this and not foolishly seek war that weakens us, does not make us cowards and backstabbers,” Lord Horace Slughorn declared.

“I hate to say this, but I agree with Lord Flint, what reassurances do we have that you won’t be attacking us.”

“Isn’t our word enough?” Lady Ella Avery asked.

“Hey I am not giving my word,” Sirius butted in, “add me into this good old brawl!”

“Wonderful,” Lord Harold Macmillan guffawed, “we shall add you as one of our ranks!”

“I am sure you could get oaths from us,” Lord Cyrus spoke over the two blood maniacs.

“Though it of course would come at a heafy cost to keep us out,” Lady Liliane Selwyn harrumphed out loud.

“How much are we talking about?” Lord Corban Yaxley asked.

“Too much and you can forget about it,” Madam Longbottom added.

The chamber slowly cleared with everyone leaving except for the Lords of the Light faction.

“Well that looked like to have gone fine in my book!” Harry spoke up at loud.

Everyone turned to look at him with varying expressions, but Harry just shrugged his shoulders. “What, they had this coming for years now. Finally at long last we can seek our righteous revenge and lay them all low!”

“Well said, well said,” Lord Harold Macmillan broke out laughing as he smacked him on the back. “I always did want to try me spell-axes against Kaiden of House Bulstrode, he would prove to be an interesting fighter.”

“If House Flint thinks that I have forgotten their killing of my brother, they have something else coming for them,” Amelia Bones swore.

Everyone uttered one or more blood debts they wanted to pay off, the last war didn’t leave people with lots of friends only enemies.

“See,” Harry said to Madam Longbottom who remained silent. “We all wanted this from the very start. Now we can seek it out.”

Shaking her head as she only addressed him, “the innocence of youth. You know what you just did right? Well you just fractured this government into pieces. You have basically brought upon us civil war.”

“Madam Longbottom,” Harry said seriously, “I respect you a lot, not just because you are Neville’s grandmother who I see as all but my blood brother, but also because you are very wise and experienced in your years. But we have always been a fractured government ever since Voldermort rouse up and even before that to Grindelwald times. There is so much hate and bad blood between us we were so eager to wage war between each other at the drop of the hat.

This can not continue forever, the Dark faction and even the grey and dare I saw our faction needs to be brought to heel.”

“And you believe all out war is the answer,” Madam Longbottom raised an eyebrow.

“Sometimes you just need to burn it all to build something new and much greater! Those are wise words once said by Merlin himself when he convinced King Arthur to unite all of Great Britain from out of its many feuding kingdoms and tribes.” Harry shrugged his shoulders.

“Anwyas, to the victor goes the spoils. Whoever wins will decide what the agenda would be for years onward, whether Dark or light, and can fashion our country into their image. We stand at a precipice of which direction we can go, that is why there have been many feuds because there are differing opinions. The lights wants that bright new future or hopes and dreams, while the dark on the other hand wants to go back to the old ways where wizards run free and muggles are stamped out in fear, and the grey can’t really decide that's why they are always on the sideline.

“Well you have got your wish now, boy,” the old woman finally spoke up. “Let’s hope that it is us and not them who come out on top, or else I doubt this country could last any long.”

[A/N: I am not calling any Democrats or Republicans Light siders or Dark sider, but it is funny how each side changes their tune over the years. A while back Democrats were saying they represent the people against the elites, now it's the Republicans doing that. You look further back it was the Democrats, then the Republicans, it's all just an endless cycle as one gains power and the other stirs up the masses.]

As Harry teleported back home to the Potter Manor with his fire teleportation ability, Tobry seemed to be waiting for him at the front door. “Hey, Tobry,” Harry greeted the house-elf.

“My lord,” the house-elf bowed his head then held out a letter for him. “This just came in!”

Taking it, Harry flipped it about and saw that there was a seal on it. It was a black and white six pointed star with different house seals on each star. Ripping it open, Harry saw that it was an invitation to this so called Council with instructions on when and how to get there.

“Do you know what this is?” Harry asked as he handed the paper over to Tobry.

Furrowing his eyebrows, Tobry took out his pocket glasses and read through the letter. “The council… I never heard of that before, my lord.”

It was only a moment before Sirius popped in behind him pulling his hair back. “Hey pup,” he called out then when he saw the letter they were peering over, he asked. “What you got there. Some love letter from a girl,” he cheekly grinned.

“No come look at it,” Harry said as with a nod Tobry passed it on to him. “What can you make about it?” Harry asked as the man's eyes darted through the slip of paper.

“The Council of Great Britain. I only heard rumors of them as my grandfather mentioned them before, they are basically all the Marquis Houses of this land. Don’t know what they do, but I guess they somehow found out about you reclaiming House Peverell!”

“Great, now I have more problems to add to my plate. But it's school first, my one month suspension is over. Tomorrow I will be heading back.”

“Yea, your friends have missed you,” Sirius nodded his head, “I am sure they will all be glad to see you once again. And you got the second trial of the Triwizard Tournament coming up.”

“That’s in the bag,” Harry said confidently, “that’s all in the bag!”

***

As one ancient House rose up once again, trying to reclaim the once glorious power it held, and while other great houses went to war with each other, there were other changes happening in the lands of Great Britain.

Back at the Nott family Manor which was a shell of its former self as most of the place was all but abandoned and cleaned out, with only a few legionaries walking the walls and hallways of the old manor. There was a disfigured shell of a small little tiny thing that looked like abominations of a baby floating into the perimeter of the manor.

Every legionary fell like his or her strings were cut off as a deadly pale green light flashed at them. One by one they silently went down like flies as the clocked form proved to be an unstoppable force.

It came to the inner sanctum of the Manor deep inside where a body was laid to rest. A piece of white cloth was the only thing covering it as all those finery and other niceties used in the burial of a Great Lord was gone.

All Theodore Nott got was just an empty grave.

The tiny figure magically brought the body forward and set it on an altar. With a wave of his small thin hand the candles lit up, and slowly shadows approached from the edges. It was a sign of powerful Dark magic was being put to work.

Raising his voice to a high creciendo, the cloaked figure begin to chant, words spilled out of his mouth and the wind started to pick up. Spectral green lights begin to flow into the room and each of them seem to have faces marked with grimacing pain or fear.

They were simply the souls of the recently deceased and they all gathered before the Dark wizard.

With a shout and an explosion of light, the body on the altar begin to reform and then it started to twitch.

Then slowly the once dead young man stood up groggily as he rubbed at his temples. “What happened,” he muttered.

“Good, very good,” a deep and dark raspily voice spoke up from underneath the hood.

The young man suddenly spun around to face the speaker with his eyes glowing an eerie green light and dark veins running at the corner of his eyes forming crow feet. Once he saw the figure his eyes nearly popped out in shock and fear.

“I see you recognize me, now that will make things much easier. BOW DOWN BEFORE ME!”

WIthout a word, Theodore Nott did so because who was he to deny, he-who-must-not-be-named,  the Dark Lord Voldemort!”

***

“My lord,” Corban Yaxley, head of House Yaxley, took to a knee before a darkly dressed man. Barely anything to be made up of him as he was seeped into the shadows while he sat on a grey stone backed throne, and in the background there was the sound of the sea crashing against the shore.

All that could be seen of him was those grey steeled eyes, those thin lips, and that black goatee. And all around him either floating in the air or gathering around him were dark hooded creatures with cloaks of long ripped black cloth, making them closely resemble wraiths. Their bodies were greyed and decayed looking, like a decomposing corpse, and their breaths sounded like rattling noises.

Corban shivered as he knew perfectly well what these creatures were, Dementors. If it were just a dozen or more of them, he would have nothing to fear, but surrounding the man on the grey stoned throne were thousands upon thousands of them, a literal army and they all seem to bow down to the man as if he was their master… no HE WAS.

“I heard that you and the light faction decided to go to war,” the man uttered in a musing tone.

“Yes, my lord,” Corban bowed his head, “the light faction is accumulating too much power too fast. We need to-..” suddenly Corban stopped as the man held out his hand.

“I do not care about your petty matters. You can send each other to the stone ages for all I care about. No, I have a very specific job in mind for you.”

“Your wish is my command, my lord,” the man intoned.

“I want you to direct your full attention to House Potter!”

“What for, my lord?” Corban furrowed his eyebrow in consternation. “I understand that House Potter most of all have been…”

Smacking his palm against his throne, the Dementors froze where they stood and turned their full attention onto Lord Yaxley. “Simply do as you are told, or else I will have to find myself another minion.”

“Yes, my lord,” the man bowed his head low as sweat dropped down his forehead. He knew that the man seated on the throne could easily end him and his house with a snap of his finger, because he was the Lord of House Azkaban and the Warden of Azkaban.
