The Iroquois Theater Disaster

It's certainly one that remains a huge presence in Chicago's history, and which had a lasting impact on the world of today. Perhaps because of that, it's very well-documented, and so it was quite easy to research.
There's one source in particular that I wanted to share with you. This website is a labour of love by someone who helped to liquidate the estate of a one-time manager of the Iroquois. If you're interested in finding out more about the disaster it's well worth a look.
As well as a really detailed history and lots of original images, it also includes an overwhelming number of stories about the people involved. It really is something to be able to see that they were just ordinary people with busy, ordinary lives - something that certainly made the disaster (even more than 100 years on) seem very immediate to me.

It really shocked me too - I'd heard about the incident a few times before I realised just how many people lost their lives.
