The Man With a Plant In His Lung

A seed surviving and sprouting inside the human lung is an extraordinarily rare occurrence. In fact, I could find only one other remotely credible story about it.
In 2009 Artyom Sidorkin made international news when surgeons apparently removed a tiny fir tree sapling from his lung. Here's a tabloid news article, which includes a (slightly bloody) picture of the tree.
I decided to cover Mr Sveden's story, though, as there was some odd inconsistencies in Mr Sidorkin's case, with some doctors noting that - while it was possible - the story as told didn't add up. Maybe a plant in the lung is even rarer an occurrence than you might think!

That sounds like a really interesting documentary. And button batteries are the worst! They look so small and innocuous, but they can cause a lot of damage

2022-11-11 16:41:25 +0000 UTCI remember first hearing about this story from a series on Discovery Channel/Animal Planet called "Monsters Inside Me." That show usually would tell stories of people who had to deal with severe bacterial/fungal/parasitic infections, but would on occasion have more unusual stories, such as Mr. Sveden's case. I remember that they even covered a story of a toddler that swallowed a button battery that severely damaged the child's throat. Mr. Sveden certainly has an odd story, that's for sure.
