A seed surviving and sprouting inside the human lung is an extraordinarily rare occurrence. In fact, I could find only one other remotely credible story about it.
In 2009 Artyom Sidorkin made international news when surgeons apparently removed a tiny fir tree sapling from his lung. Here's a tabloid news article, which includes a (slightly bloody) picture of the tree.
I decided to cover Mr Sveden's story, though, as there was some odd inconsistencies in Mr Sidorkin's case, with some doctors noting that - while it was possible - the story as told didn't add up. Maybe a plant in the lung is even rarer an occurrence than you might think!
