When putting together a story about an ejector seat, I have to mention the Martin-Baker Ejection Tie Club. Martin-Baker is a company that manufactures many of the ejector seats used in modern aircraft. It’s been around for at least 70 years, and in that time has (according to its own records) saved more than 7,000 lives with its products.
As well as recording when and how their ejector seats are used, Martin-Baker also issues people who survives a crash thanks to an ejector seat with a souvenir tie and certificate. They are then considered members of the Martin-Baker Ejection Tie Club – a very exclusive club comprised entirely of people who have been catapulted out of an aircraft by a Martin-Baker product.
