Drowned in Ale: The London Beer Flood

I’ve now covered three different unusual floods – the other two I have in mind are the Boston Molasses Flood and the Dublin Whiskey Flood/Fire. As I was researching this one, it occurred to me to have a look and see if there were any more non-water floods that I wasn’t aware of.

As it turns out, this kind of thing happens often enough that it has its own list page on Wikipedia… and some of the floods listed there are quite alarming.

There’s one where the substance which spilled is recorded as “molten chocolate and butter”. Thankfully, nobody died in that particular flood… drowning in boiling chocolate would be both a terrible and a remarkable way to go.

Oh, and there are for sure more stories about non-water floods in the pipeline, so to speak!

Here's an article related to the Gotthard road tunnel: https://www.thelocal.ch/20230911/switzerlands-gotthard-tunnel-hit-by-more-traffic-disruption

That Wikipedia page certainly is interesting. The entry about the Kingston Fossil Plant coal fly ash slurry spill is particularly fascinating. Definitely would be interested in seeing a video about that one, just saying.
